PALM SPRINGS, CALIF. – Graduate student Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) scored a career-high 25 points, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell to No. 6 USC, 84-51, at the Acrisure Holiday Invitational on Wednesday.

A USC run late in the first quarter gave the Women of Troy a lead they never relinquished. The USC roster, which features five players that are at least 6-foot-2, badly out-rebounded the Pirates, 56-to-27, which included a 22-to-11 edge on the offensive glass.

Masonius was brilliant, collecting a career-high on 11-for-21 shooting, and 3-for-6 from three-point range, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer to close the third quarter. It's her fourth game with at least 20 points in Seton Hall's first six games this season.

THE STORY:
Seton Hall fought tough with the Women of Troy in the early goings of the first quarter. A jumper by Masonius cut The Hall's deficit to 10-9 with 6:05 left in the opening quarter, but USC closed out the quarter with a 17-4 run to take a commanding 27-13 advantage into the second. USC shot 61.1 percent from the field in the first 10 minutes.

The Pirates' defense upped its pressure in the second quarter and limited the Women of Troy to just 35.3 percent from the floor, but they weren't able to cut into USC's lead. The Hall was badly beaten on the glass, 28-10, in the first half and took a 42-26 deficit into the locker room at the half.

Trailing 44-26, The Hall went on a 9-0 run, and a layup by Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) cut USC's lead to 44-35 with 7:15 left in the third quarter. The Women of Troy, however, answered with a 16-2 burst to boost its advantage back to 60-37 with 53 seconds left in the third. The Pirates never got the game closer than an 18-point deficit the rest of the way.

  • Seton Hall was 21-for-65 (32.3%) from the floor for the game, while USC was 34-for-69 (49.3%). The Hall was 5-for-23 (21.7%) from three-point range, while the Women of Troy were 6-for-21 (28.6%).

To the rich go the top talent.
….To the next level goes some buy game cash that trickles down a bit to our level. 💰

Tony and the ladies get a vacation to Cali out of the deal. Faith also showed she can hang with the best of the best. The rest of the squad…we’ll see how this shakes out but I’d call it a successful OOC run so far for the Pirates.

Outside of Uconn can we hang with the other top teams in the Big East ? I think so .
I am not a huge fan of the way the women's team plays, but this year is different. Actually played USC tough for 3 quarters.

Faith M is really good. She will win games for the team in conference on her own. If you have not seen her play, you should.
