What a game so far. TAB & Co is rolling Xavier end of 1st half. Up 46-30 after being down by 10 early. They are a lot of fun to watch

Meanwhile Villanova women beat St Johns. Looks like it's those two DePaul and us going forward.

Which makes the loss to Villanova so galling. Our team could not throw the ball into the ocean during that game.

They looked good in many areas tonight.

One area of improvement I really want. This has been bothering me and it took until tonight to see it a bit more clearly. I want the floor leaders to maintain game plan awareness more clearly and for longer sustained periods. When things are going well and continue in a flow, this is a non-issue. It crops up when the team manages to stop a run by the other team but does not go back on plan in a number of cases. You can see Tony screaming non-stop regarding a set or a planned action but the team looks blankly back or does not follow through and Tony just hangs his head.

Back from the game... it was a nice late-arriving crowd at Walsh. Although I must tell fans that it's OK to yell and to make a lot of noise.

TRS looked great. She did it all- scoring, passing and defense. She was in control and did not force shots.

Same for Shakena. She took a lot of shots but was not forcing or unnecessarily going one-on-three, as she does sometimes. She needs to pass more against the better teams to get her teammates involved and to keep'em guessing.

For the first time in four games, the Pirate did not have a ridiculous and inexplicable 2nd-quarter meltdown. Their pressing overcame a ten-point deficit and they won the quarter 28-9.

Several other players provided some good minutes. Smith, however, played only five. She's been getting less time. Perhaps she's going through freshman growing pains. She's tough. I'm sure she will work hard, learn and get a little better every day.

One aspect of the game I didn't like is that they seemed to let up a bit in the 4th quarter. Do you agree? They really need to pour it on for 40 minutes.

I thought it was strange that they again left the locker room so late after the half that they again did not have time to warm up. I think players need a couple of shots before resuming play. It's all about repetition.

It was a strong win against a very good Xavier team that beat Villanova. They are now one game out of second place in the standings.

Finally, Taylor Byrne did not play. She was in crutches. When she put them aside and walked, it was with a significant limp. What happened?

Tab got 29 as Tony and his Pirates beat Xavier 83-75 at Walsh.

Actually, Butler played at St. John's tonight. St. John's won 68-41.

And you are pointing in the same place I am regarding the forty minute focus in your comments.

BTW, how about Gordon's defense? She has improved so much. Her rebounding and shot blocking are outstanding.

If she could improve her offensive footwork and ball handling, she would be a major force.

400, word is an ankle tweak in practice.
That's no tweak. I saw how she was walking.

That sucks big-time for a basketball player. At least there's no break. That's good news.

Kuderer looked today like she's ready to take up some of those minutes. Her stroke looked solid again. Granted, she has taken only nine all season (and made five). What do you think of her D?

Molyneaux also had her moments. I'm sure between those two and Lundberg they'll keep it going.

Yes, Blue. I saw your comments and I agree.

There's really no excuse to let up. UConn and the other top teams, play with total focus and intensity even when they are winning by 50 points.

The Pirates have to do that because they won't be able to press as effectively against all teams and come back from a big deficit. Play hard at all times.

Get well quick Taylor. Stay focused ladies and you can beat anybody. Eye of the Tigress.

400, only passing along what I was told. Perhaps a bad sprain from the look of it? Was told not a tear or a break.

The thing about Martha is that she is fundamentally sound. On offense she moves in the flow. She follows shots. She has quick hands on both sides and has caused steals and deflections. On defense she is showing better and better rotation and knows how to set in the right spot more and more with game experience. I am thrilled by her progress.

Molyneaux sometimes is totally in it and other times just gets taken out of it with a quick flurry of fouls. She can get putbacks and seems to be developing a good elbow jumper.

Lundberg needs to step up.

Blue, it's hard to judge Lundberg. She has not gotten a lot of minutes. She does look comfortable and in the game when she's out there.

I only disagreed about Byrne because you used the word "tweak," which to me means a slight/minor injury that will keep you out less than a week. Perhaps I'm debating semantics.

It would be great if she's ready for DePaul on Friday. The Pirates will need every weapon in their arsenal. Everybody needs to have a great game. If you play five minutes, you have to play a great five minutes.

BTW, Blue, isn't great to be at the game and see more than 1,000 fans. I love it.

At the beginning of the season I said I hope they average more than 1,000 for the season. Right now they're averaging 1,074 with five more home games.

I hope all fans, including those who usually only follow the men, will step up for the ladies who have a good chance to make the NCAA. I am disappointed that there are so few students at the games. That's a major fail by SHU athletics.

At the very least, I hope St. John's and Villanova will be a sellout packed with fans in Pirate Blue. The Pirates are fighting with both those teams for an NCAA slot.

Here's the schedule:

400, I am glad you gave some skeptical pushback. The word used was "tweak" but you are right it had to be more than a mere tweak. We really need her.

I need to choose words carefully regarding Lundberg. I would not use the word comfortable. Perhaps more comfortable than last year sure. My concern comes from seeing that when she is on offense she basically goes to a far corner and waits. This kind of allows the defense to help side it much more easily. She just does not pull the trigger. So it is a mutually reinforcing loop of tentativeness.

Just watch Kuderer on these same points by comparison.

Please note I am madly positive about each one of them.

Agree on Lundberg and Kuderer. Claire will break through. Martha further along.
Sure miss Kat and Tara - hope they can play next year
And a big thanks to you die-hards who make it to the games. And give first hand reports.
Been sick this season but my season tix have been used. Attendance just terrific -great recruiting tool for Tony.
Lastly, you're so right. The school doesn't have a cohesive marketing program for WBB to get the fans out. Lots of one shots.
Disappointing.

400, the house was really quite good last night. Student turnout was lower than I expected. Perhaps everyone was running home before the storm in the hopes of getting a longer than usual weekend due to prolonged closure.

The marketing has not been strong because as we all know about marketing, it is not the effort, it is the result. Now I will say that halftime games with middle schools has been consistently delivered, so hat is working. But the we will feed you pizza tonight in addition to the points has to happen all the time.

Blue- agree on your points re Lundberg and Kuderer. RE Taylor was told it was a hyper-extended knee.
