DeSantis has handled this issue better than any governor in America. I'm sure there is more to this story.
Her biography says she is "insubordinate." Sums it up.
Her bio says "insubordinate" because she was fired for being a whistleblower. The official reason why she was fired was that she was insubordinate for speaking out.
fwiw, since she was fired - Florida is 2nd in Covid deaths.
Not sure what metric you are using to think he handled it better than any other governor.

Florida is #3 in overall population. Of course it will have a higher number than most.

Florida has half the deaths per 100k of either NY or NJ.Also one of the worst based on population as well though. 8th worst in deaths per million since the date she was fired. Back then FL was 28th in deaths per million. Now they are 17th.
I don't really see how that can be viewed as a good thing.

Whose placing him on a pedestal? With a completely different set of circumstances and having the ability to see it hit this area first, see what worked and what didn’t and then they ignored that information.
Also, I’m not placing Murphy or Cuomo on a pedestal... just saying that DeSantis doesn’t deserve to be on one either.
Whose placing him on a pedestal?
People in Florida will or at least should decide how things have gone there but at least at the end of the day everyone can blame Trump.Shu09 did when he said “DeSantis has handled this issue better than any governor in America.”
I disagree with that. I think he is right at the bottom.

Is any governor or mayor doing worse on the other end of the spectrum for political gain?Let the people decide and then downplay the virus, block counties and cities from implementing their own rules, and tell health officials in the state not to discuss the pandemic because it might hurt politically?
Is any governor or mayor doing worse on the other end of the spectrum for political gain?
Like Letting thousands die in nursing homes by implementing a failed directive? Unfortunately most governors have politicized this pandemic as has the president and MSM. Maybe we should nominate DeSantis for an Emmy as well.Maybe. I think there have been lots of mistakes all around the political spectrum.
Not sure I know of anything as egregious as firing a whistleblower, raiding their home with guns drawn and blocking state health officials from talking about the pandemic though.
Well, you can also compare Florida to California. California has twice the population of Florida with only 800 more deaths? So in comparison, Florida isn't doing all that well.Florida is #3 in overall population. Of course it will have a higher number than most.

Once again, I’m not claiming Florida is “successful”.As we have discussed previously, the virus was spreading in NJ nursing homes before we even had the ability to test anyone. We shouldn't be viewing these scenarios as similar circumstances. We didn't have time to prepare but Florida did. Since June 1, long term care Covid deaths are about 7x worse in Florida compared to NJ... just hard to see a metric that says Florida is successful in their response to Covid.
Shu09 isOnce again, I’m not claiming Florida is “successful”.
Wrong. No one is saying any state is successful. Saying they’ve done a better job is not exactly saying it’s successful.Shu09 is
And I was responding to Merge who was responding to me...it’s not that hardShu09 is
The mayor if austin is a moron too whether he is an elephant or a donkey...once upon a time in NJ chris christie was in florida on family vacation and kim g was on a trip to mexico and NJ was stuck in a blizzardWrong. No one is saying any state is successful. Saying they’ve done a better job is not exactly saying it’s successful.
comical how you love to call out shu09, yet when you get called out on things like the mayor of Austin Texas you hide like a child.
What are you even saying? Why would anyone have to downplay AFTER people decide how it was handled? Telling people not to discuss is different than fudging numbers which is happening by both sides and is unacceptable. Not sure why you keep things so partisan but I have a suspicion as to why. For instance desantis is the devil but Murphy is doing great notwithstanding the purported second wave here that supposedly has results akin to when this was still novel.Let the people decide and then downplay the virus, block counties and cities from implementing their own rules, and tell health officials in the state not to discuss the pandemic because it might hurt politically?

Not defensiveYou are assuming that I am saying things I haven't said.
I have not said Murphy is doing great and have said here several times that I thought he handled the reopening poorly.
All I said is that Desantis has not handled this better than any Governor in America, and in my view has actually been pretty bad and gave the reasons why I believe so. Not sure why people here feel the need to get so defensive about that.
the mayor was stupid for posting a video of himself in Mexico urging people to stay home. However, it does not compare to DeSantiis storming a whistleblower's house with warrant. That is some heavy handed actions and she will collect a really nice payday in a couple of years when she sues DeSantiis as a whistleblower. The mayor if austin is a moron too whether he is an elephant or a donkey...once upon a time in NJ chris christie was in florida on family vacation and kim g was on a trip to mexico and NJ was stuck in a blizzard

Just pointing out peoples’ “inability” to call out all bad practices
You have the patience of a saint. The topic of this thread is about something that happened in Florida. That is why we were talking about DeSantis specifically.
That's how this forum typically works. Something happens, and then we discuss it. We don't typically have to call out everything else that is happening. If there is something you would like to discuss specifically, start a thread.

I would say that the governors that are politicizing it the most are the ones that are doing a poor job for obvious reasons. DeSantis and Cuomo are two of the worst in my book. A lot of the mandates and restrictions probably even have an adverse effect as people will rebel against authority that has an over reach.I am not sure any governor is doing a "good" or "bad" job. But one thing I have noticed is cases are still rising in a lot of the states that have really strict restrictions. Someone mentioned California above, think they had over 30,000 cases yesterday and they have had some crazy restrictions since the spring. Are they doing much better than a state with less restrictions? I am not sure.
Reading about NJ seems the majority of spread happens at private / in home gatherings, hard to stop that type of spread.
People dont like being told what to do...maybe thats why divorce rates are so highI would say that the governors that are politicizing it the most are the ones that are doing a poor job for obvious reasons. eh, NJ has an absurd population density. NY is higher too, but NY is basically NYC that drives anything so really their pop density is much higher too.Florida has half the deaths per 100k of either NY or NJ.
Didn’t know you had a medical degree. Once again (fourth time I’ve stated this)....I’m not saying Florida has done a great job.eh, NJ has an absurd population density. NY is higher too, but NY is basically NYC that drives anything so really their pop density is much higher too.
Florida also is warm year round. people can go outside where the virus is tough to transmit. and all the vitamin d which is a big factor in your body fighting off transmission.its easier for them to keep businesses going. they have a head start in addition to their actual head start to the virus. but their numbers dont look too great considering.
and the video above is bad. anything said otherwise is a deflection.
so your opinion on the actual subject of the thread?Didn’t know you had a medical degree. Once again (fourth time I’ve stated this)....I’m not saying Florida has done a great job.
