If either of the Hurley's get the job don't be surprised if the other never comes into the BE. Danny refused to schedule his Father and was quoted as saying he would forfeit the State Championship if it was his St. Bennies vs. St. Anthony's. They may not want to face each other 2xs a year, possibly 3 times in Conference.
NCAA totally different situation.

Reports said Lavin was bout to get 3 year extension WTH happened.

Archie Miller would be an interesting potential.

Curious what would it take next year for Willard to get another extension? Understand many want him gone. But if he has a
22-4+ regular season does he have to go deep in the NCAA?? Would recruits that sign in Fall matter or affect?

Highly unlikely they would both coach in the same conference. Which means if SJU hired one and the other brother wanted to be local, Rutgers would be one of the few destinations. Could you imagine a scenario where one Hurley was at SJU and one at RU and were just stuck in the middle, lol.

Big split among the power brokers at SJU about which way to go. Some want a young and up-coming coach while the other faction wants a name coach . Be interesting to see what names start to surface .

The candidates this job attracts will say a lot about the perception of the new Big East. Would a "name" coach be interested?

Another false narrative. What "name" coaches were interested in the "old" Big East in this century? The new Big East will be looking at similar names when positions open.

Since 2000, teams in the old Big East hired the following men:

Al Skinner (URI HC)
Perry Clark (Tulane HC)
John Beilein (Richmond HC)
Bob Huggins (Kansas State HC)
Seth Greenberg (South Florida HC)
Mike Brey (Delaware HC)
John Thompson III (Princeton HC)
Keno Davis (Drake HC)
Ed Cooley (Fairfield HC)
Norm Roberts (Kansas asst.)
Steve Lavin (broadcaster, former UCLA HC)
Louis Orr (Siena HC)
Bobby Gonzalez (Manhattan HC)
Kevin Willard (Iona HC)
Kevin Ollie (UConn asst.)
Jay Wright (Hofstra HC)
Jamie Dixon (Pittsburgh asst.)
Gary Waters (Kent State HC)
Fred Hill (Rutgers asst.)
Mike Rice (Robert Morris HC)
Andy Kennedy (Cincinnati asst.)
Mick Cronin (Murray State HC)
Jerry Wainwright (Richmond HC)
Oliver Purnell (Clemson HC)
Buzz Williams (New Orleans HC)
Stan Heath (Arkansas HC)

As you can see, only a select few of those were "name" coaches before coming to a Big East school. Bob Huggins, Steve Lavin (ironic given he just got canned), Oliver Purnell (also ironic) and Stan Heath. Those were the only men who had previous high-major head coaching jobs before coming to an "old" Big East school since 2000.

But this is St. John's, a school in a city that is (falsely in the 21st century) thought of as a basketball mecca. Steve Masiello just today called it "one of the best jobs in the country, bar none." We know that's untrue, because the best jobs tend to attract the best candidates. Who's interested in coaching St. John's? Guys with limited resumes like Masiello, Mullin, and the Hurleys.

Would Gregg Marshall consider St. John's? No way. But don't be surprised if he winds up at Texas in the next couple weeks.

I agree with you on St. John's but my point is to look at the coaches hired by the "old" Big East. The vast majority of them had limited resumes.

Your post made a point about how this hire by St. John's would give us an indication of the perception of the reconfigured Big East. I countered by saying how even in the "old" Big East, most coaches were not "name" guys and came from lesser backgrounds. In the 21st century, Big East (old and new) jobs have never drawn established coaching talent. St. John's list of candidates will attract similar type of coaches. Those at mid and low majors who have the capability to move up based on success at that level.
