Hall trails 21-16 under 7 minutes in 2nd quarter.

Games is on FS1 right now

Walsh has an excellent crowd.

Hall down 32-28 at the half. Another poor 2nd quarter for SHU. We look a
step slow.

The St. John's PG Aaliyah Lewis is a total dynamo. Tremendous player. Hall has its hands full in this one.

Down by 9 at the end of the 3rd. We look awful today. Very poor on defense.
Why are we playing a halfcourt game? This team is meant to run. 56-47 after 3 quarters.

Let's see what happens in the 4th.

SH blows 3 chances on one possession and gives up a 3 point play. Crushing.

Oh well. I think their season is in jeopardy to some degree. Not sure they can get an at
large bid, maybe. They may have to win the BigEast Tournament.

I have to be critical of Tony on this one. He's got players out there who have
almost zero focus. You have to get them out even if they are key players in the past. Something
is wrong with a couple of the gals??? Tony has constructed a winning program by a team
that uses the entire team and runs you into the ground. Now they're playing halfcourt with a couple
of players standing around. I thought the trapping was very good and they forced turnovers, but
they left the paint open more than a few times.

Kudos to L. Gordon. She played great and had heart and focus. She kept them hanging around.

I like this program, but that was awful.

Have you ever had to do something that you really didn't want to do? And your heart really wasn't in it yet you tried to hide that fact? Meanwhile everyone around you kept asking you "what's wrong?" and you're response was "nothing".

To me that sums up how most of this team seems to be playing now...

I'm not sure when, why or how it started but that seems to be the reality we are facing.

As of now this team is not an NCAA team and doesn't really deserve to be one. Looks like an NIT team barring a complete meltdown.... We've come a long way since Rutgers and Princeton.

They play with great heart, but also with great stupidity. Very poor fundamentals.

First let me say that it seems that Shakena has a physical issue. I'm not sure what, but she's a step show and it's affecting her performance. So let's give her credit for trying.

If Shakena is not 100 percent, there's a negative trickle down effect.

And whatever is wrong with Kuderer has impacted the team at a time when she had just worked her way into the lineup.

Having said that, this team is out of it. They seems to have no offense flow... or plan, for that matter. There is a breakdown in communication.

The team had a total of five assists and 19 turnovers! How does a team total five assists for entire game?

TRS had ZERO REBOUNDS and ZERO ASSISTS. Even when her offense is off at least she usually contributes in other ways. Her body language is not that great either.

Powell, who was on fire as a 3-point shooter, did not attempt one until well into the second half. Somehow they needed to run a couple of plays for her.

How do explain Jones? How does a player's offense regress so sharply in such a short period of time? She also had seven turnovers.

At times the team looked like 5-7 years ago when a handful of players were incapable of hitting a running layup or completing two-foot shots.

What's wrong? Yes, the Big East can make a team (and fans) pull out their hairs in frustration. Yet I believe we all agree this team is seriously underachieving over the last month. That should not happen with so many upperclassmen.

It's not too late because there are six regular season games to play and at least one in the BE championship.

The window, however, is about to close on these seniors unless the quickly re-evaluate how they'd like to finish their careers.

Will they spend a lifetime looking back in regret?

Will they spend a lifetime coming back and looking at their two NCAA banners?

It's really up to them (and the coaches.)

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall women’s basketball team dropped a 72-64 decision to St. John’s on Sunday afternoon at a sold-out Walsh Gymnasium. The Pirates (17-6, 7-5 BIG EAST) got 18 points from Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) and a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double from Lubirdia Gordon (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) in their second setback of the season to the Red Storm (17-6, 8-4 BIG EAST).

Turning Point

An Aleesha Powell (Philadelphia, Pa.) 3-pointer cut St. John’s’ lead to 67-64 with under 90 seconds to play, but on the ensuing possession the Red Storm pushed it back to a two-possession game with an Aliyyah Handford lay-in. The Pirates couldn’t pull closer than five the rest of the way as SJU held on for the victory.

- The Red Storm enjoyed a 42-30 edge in the paint and a 28-12 advantage in points off turnovers

- St. John’s went 10-for-12 (83.3 percent) from the floor in the third quarter, out-scoring Seton H all 24-19 in the frame

- With 18 points, Richardson-Smith is now 25 away from the Seton Hall career scoring record

- Taylor Byrne (Massapequa, N.Y.) returned after a two-game absence (injury) and scored three points with two rebounds, also a drawing a pair of charges

- The Hall falls to 28-44 all-time against St. John’s as the Red Storm become the first team to sweep a regular season BIG EAST series with the Pirates since the 2013-14 season

Pat and I talked through most of these points during halftime at the game itself. It's very disconcerting and concerning. Prior to that loss to Marquette, they were playing predictably and strongly for the most part, and it practically all evaporated....

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode: Kevin is becoming Tony and Tony is becoming Kevin....

I have a great deal of confidence in Tony and his coaches to figure
this out. So all is not lost.

Being down to DePaul at home by 30 was a huge Red Flag that our gals were not approaching every game with 100 percent focus. Although the margin of victory was not all that severe, it was the SJU team as a whole that wanted this game more.

Tony had his team in a place where they could score 80-100 points without any surprise. Now they are caught in that halfcourt game I mentioned earlier.

Maybe they can consider going with 3 guards along with TRS and Gordon. Somehow he has to get more contribution off the bench and also prevent the 2nd quarter blues that we have seen much of the year. I'd probably try to get more contribution from Tiffany Jones off the bench. This team is at a critical juncture. If K Richardson is hurt than I'd start Mosely and then have Richardson and Jones off the bench.

This seems more about player alignment to each other, the team, the game plan. And - I am expressly not using these words to suggest that there is personal friction. The mood among the players looks good, like they really care about each other.

What I mean can be illustrated as follows: if a player drives into the defense and is sealed off, she can turn and know immediately without thinking where her relief will be standing; if a player drives down the lane and must pass, she can know immediately where the next pass should be directed because her team mate *will* be there and ready. We are seeing this alignment emerge on the men's side (to our great delight). The women's side had this alignment and have lost it right now.

She also appeared to be injured throughout most of the StJ game... She gutted it out, big time.
Pat, that's the game being discussed on the thread. She injured herself last Tuesday missing most of that practice and all the others for the rest of the week.

Next year is going to be very interesting as it will be tony coaching the players he recruited. As much as Donovan was a bad coach she did leave tony some great talent.

Didn't Walsh used to hold 2,700?
Pre-Amaker and the current basketball office, it was much bigger.

A few rows of the lower bleachers along both sidelines don't get pulled out like they did in the past. The official capacity is still listed at 2,600, but good luck getting anywhere close to that many people in there with a seat without placing the band and media row on the stage and without pulling the bleachers all the way out.
