CONWAY, S.C. – The Seton Hall softball team jumped out to a big early lead and held on in a slugfest, out-lasting Appalachian State by a score of 14-8 on Saturday at the Kickin’ Chicken Classic. Senior Yasmin Harrell (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) stole three bases in the win to give her 68 for her career – most in Seton Hall history.

The Pirates (6-2) led 6-0 before Appalachian State (0-9) came to bat and scored 11 runs in the first three innings of the high-scoring triumph. Alannah Basile (Levittown, N.Y.), Lauren Fischer (Robbinsville, N.J.) and Faith Lauano (Islip, N.Y.) all homered for the Pirates as The Hall racked up a season-high 18 hits to score a 2016-best 14 runs.

Laudano had a game-high four RBIs, while Basile and Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) each drove in three. Fischer supplemented her home run with a pair of doubles and scored three times, while Harrell and Noel Lent (Yaphanic, N.Y.) both scored twice. In the circle, four pitchers saw action including freshman Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) who fired a pair of scoreless innings.

Turning Point

With the Pirates already ahead 3-0 in the top of the first, Basile cracked a three-run home run to put the Pirates up by six early. The Hall would build an 11-3 lead with four more runs in the top of the third to put the contest out of reach.

- The Pirates out-hit the Mountaineers 18-8 and notched six extra-base hits

- From the top two spots in the order, Harrell and Lent combined to go 5-for-7 with five stolen bases and four runs scored

CONWAY, S.C. - The Seton Hall softball team used a six-run third inning to propel itself to a 9-5 victory over Cleveland State on Saturday night at the Kickin' Chicken Classic. The Hall improves to 7-2 on the year and 3-1 at the tournament with the victory, while the Vikings drop to 4-4 on the year.

Alex Rabbetts (Corona, Calif.) led the Pirates offensive with a pair of hits and three RBIs, while Yasmin Harrell (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) both went 2-for-4 with two RBIs apiece. The Pirates fell behind 1-0 early, but exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third build a five-run advantage. The Vikings pulled within three twice with a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, but The Hall answered each time for the eventual 9-5 margin.

In the circle, Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) turned in her fourth complete game of the season with seven innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Strunk improved her record on the year to 5-2 with the victory.

Turning Point

With The Hall down a run in the bottom of the third, the bats came alive to produce six runs and put the Pirates ahead, a lead it would hold the rest of the way. Harrell got the scoring started with a two-run double, coming home to score two batters later on an RBI single from Rabbetts. Head brought home two more with a single later in the frame and Ragen Reddick (Middlesex, N.J.) capped the scoring with an RBI double. Four of the runs in the frame were scored with two outs.

- Hits were even at 10-10, with the Pirates drawing three walks and two hit batsmen compared to two walks for the Vikings
