Some good stuff here...

Great stuff - would be awesome to have whitehead back for at least another year. How great would it be to transition this soph class after 2 more years and then pass the torch over to the 2018 Fab Five crew discussed. Something tells me Willard could be plucked by a bigger school if we have success over the next 2 years and hopefully Sha could take over the reigns.

Thanks for posting the link. I'm skeptical though because its coming from Zags.

Did you see this quote about Isaiah from the supposed NBA scout? "He shot it well last night but inconsistent."

What?? 8 of 12 shooting and 5 of 8 from 3pt land? Is Zags sure he got that quote after last night's game? Inconsistent? What does he have to do hit em all?

Then he talked to another NBA exec who was not at the game? Just another fluff piece from Zags that I can't really take a lot from.

I personally think he is in fact a year away and he has to work on his handle and have a full year of shooting the ball well. But if you look at just his BE stats, he is shooting the ball very well in conference games against very good competition.

all of this makes me think that IW is not being watched as much as he probably should be. Granted, we've seen him really take off over the last couple of months. so maybe NBA scouts want to see a larger body of work over time.

who knows. Selfishly, we all want to see him back for another year.

He will have a choice to make, especially if he keeps playing like this. Of course the number of players who left too soon by far outnumber the players who waited and benefited by having a longer career.

Yes, the scout sounded clueless, but lots of guys are clueless about some things. I don't know if Isaiah is ready for the NBA. But how good does a kid have to play to be seen as ready? Some of his games have been crazy good lately, and in his one stinker, he hits to fts to win it. Z's early season percentages are what the guy was talking about when he discussed his shooting woes, and he shot poorly early in the season. Scouts have to decide if he is hot, or see if he corrected something to get him shooting so well lately. I am enjoying this kid while I can.

Last night, IW sure looked good enough to be drafted but, most of the comments by the scouts are not off base.

The inconsistent comments were obviously not about last night's shooting but his overall shooting consistency.
He's 48th in the Big East in fg%. Just last game he shot 1-12.
Of the 15 players in the BE who average over 2.5 ast/game he's 11th in Ast/TO ratio.

With that being said, IW of recent has been taking better shots, hitting 3 pointers at a higher percentage, and his ast/to ratio has been a lot better than earlier in the year. Scouts want to see that over a longer period of games and an NCAA tournament berth and win could do wonders if he continues to play at this level.

Next year could be something special with IW back.
Then IW gets drafted middle of the 1st round in 2017 and our next IW (Isaiah Washington jumps on board for the 2017 class).

I am of the opinion that the higher Isaiah goes in the draft this year the better it benefits the future of the program. Our team next year would be worse off, but the street cred for Willard and Sha turning a fairly raw NYC guard into a hulking brute of a point and getting him into the mid first round, or even lottery, in only two years, would be enormous. Of course for that to happen Isaiah needs to motor through the rest of the season and show out in the big tournament. But if he does that, we all win.

WoahBundy.. I agree that IW getting drafted this year looks great for future recruits but,

I think that making some noise in March, starting in the pre-season top 25 and remaining their all season long with IW looks even better. IW will be a regular in the 2017 mock drafts and then get drafted after a sweet 16 or better season.

I agree that all sounds great. I guess I'm just thinking let's make a run this year and see where the chips fall. Next year is of course never guaranteed, even if Z comes back.

He is a much better all around player than Lance Stephenson who could not have been more hyped. He was taken early in the 2nd round .Hard to believe that NBA scouts are not watching him closely even if he has these 1-11 FGs nights especially given that he looks very coachable. Have to believe if he gets any assurances he will be taken mid to late 1st round he would not go.

It's all relative though... We're talking the elite young players in the world, with a relatively small number of NBA teams doing the selecting. There's a lot of talent to be divided up between a small pool of teams.

Let's see how IW plays against X this Sunday as you know X will focus on stopping him and whether his performance enhances his NBA resume or detracts from it.

I think Isaiah very close to being NBA ready. I have 3 concerns. First concern is selfish I want to see him in pirate blue another year. Second concern is where is he projected, anywhere in the top 20 I think he should go, but anywhere after 20 I'd say stay another year unless great financial need. Third concern is brand image. We love the player Isaiah is becoming, but he's not national news. Unless of a Final Four run, I just don't see him reaching his potential across the nation. If he stays next year he can really make himself a brand name going into the 2017 draft and you can guarantee whoever picks him next year will be selling his jersey like hot cakes if he continues to improve. Maybe a couple hundred Hall fans will buy his jersey if he gets drafted this year.

That is true with all the foreign players that now enter and get drafted. But, still if an NBA team thinks they can realize his potential rather quickly and given physically he does not need much time to develop he would be a solid pick. And sic, I meant to post hard to believe he would not go if assured of going in the 1st round.

Isn't he light years ahead of a player like Kyle Anderson after 2 years of college?

I personally feel he needs one more year. How great would it be for him to get POY next year. The ultimate compliment from the coaches of other teams and ultimate reward for a player.

He needs to do what he needs to do but would like him to come back for one more year and get that accolade!

I believe he is not a first round pick this year. I do believe that if he continues improving at the pace he is, he will be considered one of the top 15 fifteen players in college basketball next year and be in the running for National Player of the Year. SHU would also be a top 10 team and be in the news every game giving Isiah and the team national publicity on a weekly basis.

LETS GO PIRATES

Reading between the lines, here's my take: He shot it well last night but [his overall FG% shows he's] inconsistent.
