Ever wonder who your favorite sports team backs politically? Well Yahoo sports and WYNY did some research and the results are interesting. Rivalries on the field kind of transcend to the election too. Locally the Jets owner Woddy Johnson has donated generously to the Republican cause , Tisch of the Giants to the Democrats. The Knicks and Rangers, both controled by the Dolans support Romney while the Nets, Ratner, supports Obama. Both the Yankees and Mets owners are Republican backers. The Devils did not donate to either party .

The greatest amount of money was generated by baseball.Greg Maffie of Atlanta is the single largest doner and his cash went to Romney. Obamas largest take came from the Dodgers , Magic Johnson.

Here is a quick breakdown by sport of major contributors thus far. Baseball . Republican, Yanks, Mets, A's Angels,Rangers, White Sox Marlins,Braves . Democrat, Dodgers,Giants,Orioles,Red Sox( one minority Sox owner broke ranks and donated to Romney.

Football :Republican, Jets ,Dolphins, Texans, Cardinals, Redskins,Lions, Chargers, Ravens Bucs.

Democrat, Steelers, Giants 49ers, Eagles Patriots, Saints, Raiders

Funny thing was that the teams that Romney roots for did not support him financially and the teams Obama roots for did not entirely back him.

Bottom line of the story was that Romney has benifited more from pro sports owners.

So do we stop rooting for our favorite teams if they don't share our political views? My favorite team does not think like I do, but who cares? Their my team no matter what.

Doesn't make a difference to me at all.
I don't mind when people disagree with my political views.

Conversely, I did become a fan of Chris Kluwe this week.

Of course not. you root for a team & continue to do so. Why should I care who the owners or players are supporting.

Same goes for celebrity's. Bruce Springsteen is a Dem while Clint Eastwood supports the GOP. Should I stope watching one or the other perform? Hell no. Both are great artists and I will continue to go to Bruce's concerts and Clint's movies.

That was, quite possibly, the most poorly written, idiotic open letter I've ever seen. It was like he was watching Superbad and consulting a thesaurus while writing it. The bar is pretty low for football players, in general, so he got a pass from the (left) media.

On the topic overall, I'm proud to be a Devils fan.

I don't think he was positioning himself to become a journalist after his NFL career.

Writing style aside, his points were valid if not 100% correct.

Most of his points are very valid although he trots out the First Amendment defense all the while trying to stifle Burns' First Amendments rights.

Kluwe wrote it in response to Burns trying to use his political position to threaten the First Amendment rights of one of his constituents. At best, that's unethical representation by Burns and Kluwe was calling him out on that nonsense (and he made a few other personal points as well).

Criticizing what someone said is not the same as trying to stop them from talking.

Stating an opposing opinion is not the same as trying to stifle another's first amendment rights. What it is is excercising his own first amendment rights.
