Standout Stats

There are some stats that pop when looking at the Pirates' composite box.

--First, Delgado is averaging a double-double at 10.0 PPG and 10.1 RPG. He has shown a lot improvement over the last few games, including with his temperament.

--Last week I mentioned that Whitehead is a great defender and I wrote about his shot blocking. He's now tied for first with 25.

--In his first season as a PG, Whitehead has 103 assists and 70 TOs after 22 games. It was obvious last season that he was the best passer on the team. Now he's getting better by looking for teammates more often and by improving his margin. Last season he played a total of 22 games. He finished with 78 assists and 73 TOs.

--Carrington has 58 assists and 46 TOs. So he's on the positive side.

--The Pirates are first in offensive rebounding average.

--The Pirate are last in the Big East in free throw shooting. That's a killer and is often the difference between victory and defeat. Sonogo is shooting .512 and Delgado is at .551.

Last season the Pirate were next to last so they're going in the wrong direction.

I wonder if there's any other key stat that stands out to you guys.

Nzei and Sanago have combined to average over 9 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2 blocks in about 40 mpg from the power forward position. That kind of production from the 4 spot has definitely stood out to me. It's not going to show in the stat sheet, but their defense has really elevated this team too.

Ft shooting is not good. But Angel has turned the corner on this facet of the game. He is getting pretty reliable. And our two guards are both good. But so many one for twos.
