No, Chicken Little and SHU Basketball fans, the sky is not falling! The season is not over and I have not given up on our team, there is a long way to go. As any knowledgeable College Basketball follower and fan knows, unforeseen things can and most likely will happen before the conclusion of this season. College Basketball is a very unpredictable sport, where things can change quickly.
It would be something if today's victory becomes more important as the season progresses and and more important than any of us can realize at the conclusion of this game. I saw real potential in this very athletic Ole Miss team, including with their talented guard, Stefan Moody (24.8 PPG). Although we held Moody to 13 points on 4-of-13 shooting, he is a dangerous and explosive scorer, who can give any opponent's defense fits. I think Ole Miss has better players than we saw this afternoon, a very good coach, etc. who will lead Ole Miss to “The Big Dance” for the third year in a row in a tough SEC Conference, and that could only bode well for us.
On the positive side for us, I like the way Desi is playing at the 3 which, is a new position for him; specifically and especially in the 2nd half. Desi he is getting better and more comfortable at the 3 and is becoming a real force for us with at the passing of each game. Additionally, I noticed other players improving, especially Nzei, Carrington, Gordon, etc.
I have concerns about Delgado, he almost looks out-of-shape. However, being the type of player I know he is, with a motor that never slows down, I am confident that he will return to his Rookie-of-the-Year form with his unmatched desire. That will give us a very formidable front line with Delgado, Desi, Nzei and a lot of talent at the guard and other positions.
This afternoon I saw our offense and defense come together, especially in the 2nd half. This shows that our players can play well and I still feel there is talent on this team to compete in the Big East, which is a very funny conference this season, unlike other years.
Isaiah is a very special player, and as he gets more comfortable at his new position, he will open things up for Carrington and will only make this team better. I expect us to play very well against Georgia, resulting in the players gaining and realizing more confidence with each game
Let’s all just take it t one game at a time and see what happens, and continue to get behind and support our players. Sometimes we forget that they are only 18, 19, year-old college students.
