Lifting sanctions the right thing to do to continue to have Saudi nations support discussions with Iran on eliminating nuclear threat. Now it’s up to al Sharaa to live up to his word. Most importantly this is good for Syrian people.
I am very wary of a guy who was with Al-Qaeda. Sectarian violence in a brutal by all internal sides is still gong on. Has this leopard changed his spots????? I doubt it.

We don’t know, but do you continue to punish the people of Syria for Asad’s actions? We can always reimpose the sanctions once again if he doesn’t hold his side of the bargain.

The violence is still going on, but this gives al Sharaa a platform to rally the people. Don’t trust any of these leaders, but if this still puts leverage on Iran, it’s a good thing.

He was part of Al Qaeda and ISIS. Asad was bad this guy could actually be worse. We are not dealing with some unknown here. We can be helping an extreme Islamist to hurt the US.

No one is arguing his past, but he is in charge now. The people of Syria have been struggling due to the sanctions. What’s your solution?

The people are suffering due to sectarian violence which is killing people left and right. Sanctions are not killing people. . So you help a man who is anti American and has been part of atrocities? Part of an organization that did 9/11. It’s pretty outrageous to think that this guy dressed in a suit has changed so drastically.

Where are the elections that he promised?

You are contradicting yourself in positions. Why do you care about the citizens of Syria and not the Palestinians?

Even members of Biden’s administration think he should have done it while in office. The sanctions have crippled the economy.

Why should the people suffer from the sanctions that were in place for Assad? You should talk to people in the Syrian community sometime (one of the largest Christian Syrian communities in the U.S. is in the Lehigh Valley). They are extremely happy with this decision.

It’s a totally different situation than Gaza. Different Muslim sects and a Christian community. Al Sharaa is there now and you either ignore him or work with him to help the people (investing in oil production) in advancing the strategy to disarm Iran and normalize relations with Israel.

I would choose not to help anyone part of Al Qaeda. Maybe I’m too close to the issue. But, I would never deal with the Taliban, Al Qaeda or ISIs. But that’s me. I guess other people have other agendas to deal with terrorists.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer? It sounds like you are suggest an isolationist strategy.

I would encourage you to speak to the Syrian community about this. The Christians in Syria are ecstatic about the sanctions being lifted. Al Sharaa has now put himself in a position to have to choose. Either support the U.S., Turkey, Saudi’s or not. I am told one of two things will happen. He will have to dispose of the radical Sunni’s (you can figure that out) to stay in power with the U.S. support or he may be a casualty of them. By wearing a suit and meeting with Trump, Erdogen and MBS, some of his followers are already pissed.

Al Sharaa was born in Syria although he spent much of his life living elsewhere. We will know very soon which path he chooses or gets chosen for him.

Agree. Not sure how to distance ourselves. It’s not fair that the Democratic Party is continually accused of, at a minimum, implicitly supporting these regimes.
