South Orange, N.J. – Jamir Harris, a talented guard with a lot of experience, is returning to his home state of New Jersey, as he has signed a grant-in-aid offer to transfer to Seton Hall University and play for the Pirates beginning in 2021-22, head coach Kevin Willard announced Monday. Harris, who is from North Brunswick, N.J., and played his high school basketball at The Patrick School, spent the last three years at American University.

"We are really excited about adding Jamir Harris to our Seton Hall Family," Willard said. "He is a winner, and he makes everyone around him better. He is extremely competitive, very skilled and has the ability to create his own shot and create for his teammates. We're especially excited to bring in another alumnus of The Patrick School, where Jamir had a very successful career. We're excited to see Jamir continue to develop here in a Seton Hall uniform."

Harris blossomed into an explosive scorer while at American in 2020-21, averaging 20.5 points and 3.5 assists while also leading the nation in three-pointers made per game at 3.9. He shot 47 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point range, which ranked seventh-best in the country. He also was so valuable to the Eagles that he almost never left the court, leading the nation in minutes played at 38.9 per game. At season's end, he was named first-team All-Patriot League and second-team NABC All-District 13.

The New Jersey native has improved his shooting percentages each season over the course of three campaigns, his first being at Minnesota, and he is an 82 percent career free throw shooter.

Harris was extremely successful during his high school career at The Patrick School, which included winning the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions title and the Non-Public A title. He scored over 1,100 points and was a 2016-17 USA Today second-team All-State selection.

Under Willard, Seton Hall has established itself as a perennial contender in the BIG EAST Conference and is coming off a sixth straight top-four finish in the league that includes winning the 2016 conference tournament championship and 2020 regular season title. Alongside Harris, the Pirates are bringing in a top-25 rated freshman recruiting class that will help the Pirates once again compete for another conference championship and NCAA Tournament bid.

Glad to see SH promoting Jamir‘s signing and what he brings to Seton Hall . It was also good to see it promoting the accomplishments its achieved over the past several years and how it’s attracting talented players in its quest to remain a top tier team going forward in the BE.

Nice pick up on a lot of levels. He'll definitely help you guys being an aggressive scorer. He reminds me of Cole. Equally importantly though, he's just another tie to The Patrick School and top NJ talent. We need to keep those guys in the Big East, as much as possible (though I'd prefer to see them at UConn, just saying.)

Does anyone know if Jamir or Jaquan have played AAU or summer league ball with KR? Is it possible that the Harris brothers are getting in Richmond's ear about joining the Hall?

No connection.
Richmond and Weston know each other. Both from Brooklyn.
