THAT ELUSIVE 2nd SHOOTER
Last season Seton Hall was a good but not great team. Yes they had a great shooter/scorer in Myles Powell, but they lacked that 2nd outside scorer to keep the opponents defense honest. Every team we faced double or triple teamed Powell. Now fast forward to this years team. All the national publications rank us in the nations Top 20 and quite a few have us in the Top 10 as well as favorites to win the Big East. I have been dubious of this pre-season hype.
Well today I saw the Blue White Scrimmage and the new Pirates for the first time. We all know that 7-2 transfer Ike Obiagu will be a major factor but once again where is that 2nd deep shooter. Enter 6-9 freshman Tyrese Samuel. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. He is long, athletic and yes he can certainly shoot and from deep. The game started with Samuel hitting 3 of 4 three pointers from the left corner. Then with the D tightening up he drove baseline for a lay up plus a slam on his next two opportunities. OK it is only one scrimmage so let's make sure we still have another option. So here comes Soph Jared Rhoden who we will now call deep scorer #3. Last year playing thru nagging injuries Jared was good but inconsistent. Today & from I have heard form practice he is ready to step up both as a inside and outside threat. My opinion Samuel & Rhoden will be key players for the next several seasons for our Pirates.
MY PREDICTION FOR THE 2019-20 SEASON: 32-1 (Hell nobody is perfect so we will lose a game at some point)
