Odds and ends from last night.

1. The most exciting Beefsteak in the 10 year history of the event. From 75 people crammed in a room at the Student Center in year 1 to well over 500 seats filled 2 weeks before the event was scheduled with the minimum goal being to raise $100,000.00.

2. Had a chance to speak to Dr Nyre. Never met him in person yet after I identified myself he tells me great job on the board and we have to set something up in the future and go out together. I was floored to say the least that a man as busy as he would make that offer to someone he doesn't even know. This guy is going to be as awesome a hire as was Pat Lyons.

3. I noted Buzz in the headline because Bryan Felt said at the podium that he has never seen the BUZZ on campus with the students regarding this basketball season as he is seeing now.

4. Staying with the students...Talked to Joe Rixon and he told me that they sold more than the allotted amount of seats at the Rock for them. Over 1000.

5. Probably today, seats will go on sale in the upper level for the Marquette game with the Xavier game nearing the same status.

6. We have more season tickets sold at the Rock than ever before. I was asked not to post the exact number.

7. Spoke to Bryan Felt and asked him specifically about the new seating arrangement at Walsh. The split between the lower and upper levels will remain but the bleachers will be replaced by sit back chairs as will the wooden chairs in the upper level.

8. Not 100% but it looks like both the floor and wooden seats will be sold in the form of donations to the school.

9. Spoke to Q and he told me that coach has given him the offensive green light to shoot. Also said that he and Willard worked all summer on his jump shot. Thought he should have won DPOY and said he will absolutely win it this season.

10. Spoke to Powell and asked him 2 questions. Was that THE jacket that had the stitching inside that he wore to Big East Media Day, He said no. And then asked him what are you going to do if you miss a shot this year. Smiling he said I ain't missing a shot.

Powell was again overwhelmed by the reaction of the crowd as he was last Thursday. Willard asked him to speak at the end of the event but he seemed so choked up by the standing ovation he barely uttered a few words.
