I think I'll leave the conversation of managing Kevin Willard to others I'm
More concerned about Kevin Willard managing the basketball team at the moment.
Long term it is the recruiting that is the root cause of the basketball problems. I believe when they get a decent recruit that's willing to sign on the dotted line they usually go for it They tend to sign players with huge gaps in their skill set. Many times they are signing players that are bad free throw shooters from the time they get here. So that's a problem from the get go with the illusion they can get better.
Anyway, Id like to see Powell now become a main part of the offense. When he's out there it's not good enough for just catch and shoot situations. The kid has game and he needs the ball in his hands. That's not going to happen unless Kevin insists that Carrington and Desi get the kid the ball. Does Desi ever pass the ball to Powell? Just BS that he took so few shots in the second half of a must game when the kiid was on fire.
Is it worth it to play Anthony when Delgado gets his rest? Is it worth it to rest Angel at those same spots in every game. The plus minus for Anthony last night was -7 I believe only because Powell launched a three . Maybe Angel is prone to fouling when he's winded and that's something Kevin is taking into consideration. What's strange is sometimes Anthony is glued to the bench and then he gets into a crucial road game. How about trying to trade baskets when Angel is out by using 3 or even 4 guards. Try anything else because the data reflects
Minus points almost every time. Kevin has to try another strategy.
Didn't understand not pressing Xavier with their severe injury in the backcourt. They should have been all over that kid. Other teams would have done that to us.
I totally appreciate what Desi has done for the program. Last night he was Jeff Robinson. A selfish ball hog who came out with no fire. His trip to the free throw line was totally unacceptable. 2 points in the first half?? A bad 16 point night. Never looked for Powell. This was the night that Willard should have been in his face. Along
with Carrington they killed us in the Xavier game. That's how you lose your NCAA bid. I still believe Desi's been our best player a tick over Delgado.
It may or may not be too late. The big 3 usually don't play well the same night and that's been a killer to the season thus far.
Very frustrating season.
