The Big East answered the bell this weekend

Many people including myself wondered if the Big East would be able to resurrect itself after Georgetown lost to Radford and Marquette lost to Belmont in the first 24 hours of the season. But if this weekend is any indication the Big East is going to have several teams in addition to Villanova that remain as national factors all season long. Xavier was beyond impressive in a 16-point win at Michigan on Friday while Butler showed real potential during the Puerto Rico Shootout.

The Hoyas meanwhile took Duke to the wire in New York and didn't have two key rotation players -- Tre Campbell (virus) and Paul White (hip) -- available. It remains to be seen if any of these teams can challenge Villanova for the conference's regular season title, but unless something drastic happens all three of these teams should find themselves in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

This just in............

Marquette beats #22 LSU in Brooklyn 81-80. I only saw the last few minutes, but I was
quite disappointed with Marquette's basketball IQ down the stretch. That's not the
Marquette that we've seen in the last decade. They must have done some good things before that
to be in the lead the entire game until the last minute. Anyway, It looks good with another BigEast
team beating an SEC school.

They played well, having a 6-9pt lead in the 2nd half till I fell asleep. Guards looked good. Tracy carter who we wanted had 8 assists. They kept Simmons and Blakeney in check. Fisher was active. Ellenson ok, though both were in foul trouble.

Creighton goes on a 13-0 run with 9 minutes left and beats the So. Jersey BIG 75-65, but not the 11 1/2 PT spread. RU hits a 2 pointer with under 40.

Another nice win for Creighton last night on a neutral court. Blowout win over previously undefeated UMASS.
