The Board Has Been Surprisingly Tolerant

After The Creighton meltdown and KW quitting early, I have to admit I was bummed out.

I thought sure that the board would go bonkers because I know I was. Surprisingly the board reacted quite reasonably with most fans willing to give the team a pass because of their very decent play up to this point.

Most fans seemed to be willing to chalk it off to simply a bad loss with the hope that the team would rebound with a good effort.

That is also my hope and am trying to be optimistic that the team will regroup and restore our faith that the team can put the Creighton debacle behind them and get back to basics.

This is as much a test for KW as it is for his players. A poor effort would be as devastating for us fans as it would be for the program. Frank

I think your last paragraph is spot on. We've seen this movie before...hoping for a different ending. Maybe we're all a bit numb and a little checked out.

I have been as supportive as anyone in preaching patience for KW, but t I have to admit my own patience is wearing a little thin. It's time for him to put up. Frank

As the other ( Hoboken) Frank sang: " it's the same old song and dance...""

After supporting the coach for four and a half years, I'm one who has lost faith. I travelled to Charleston and left only slightly optimistic. Later OOC games were increasingly encouraging. But when I saw that familiar indifferent look on his face and what appeared to be his refusal to simply work hard trying to motivate the team in the 2nd half against CU, I gave up any hope that we could finish higher than we normally do (6-8). No coach wants to have to expend energy motivating his team, but the truth is, sometimes you just have to. Coach Willard let that game go on Saturday. I cannot support anyone who quits like that. Nothing would please me more than to eat crow as I climb back on the bandwagon, but I don't see it happening.

Yep. Seen this before and numb to it. I don't anticipate this season ending well but I am hopeful it will.

I will still support the team of course but the bottom line is that there would be zero excuse to less than 7 league wins. I won't be happy less than 9, but 7-8 is forgivable in my view. 6 wins or less and we know what needa to happen. No sense talking about it in January.

Not crazy about this thread. It just invites trouble.

You bounce around like a ping-pong ball on this, LOL!!

The week off always quiets things. Let's see how they come out tomorrow.

At some point this year it'll be irrelevant again. Just like last year.

This is why the Creighton game was so important. It is the difference between 3-4 and 2-5 with 4 straight losses. That one game changes the face of this season pretty dramatically.

Its not about tolerance it's about resignation and acceptance. We're becoming more and more resigned to the fact that there is no incentive or passion anywhere in the administration to make the changes necessary to produce a basketball program that wins . We've also come to accept that irrespective of his record this year KW will , in all likelihood, return next year and the public pronouncements of SH 's commitment to athletic success are mere hollow words and many posters have decided that any criticism they post here will influence nothing so they don't even bother anymore.

They haven't even played the games yet!!!!

I believe the Pirate faithful are thinking there are some redflags in the last few games. The team still
has the benefit of the doubt for now, but the expectations are realistic. There are not too many fans
that are going overboard with the record one way or another. I guess we would not be surprised if they
can keep it together with an upset in the next week nor would we be very surprised if the team goes in the tank. Take them one at a time. I feel Providence is set up for a trap game on Saturday and the Pirates
can definitely win.

I keep hearing the word numb regarding our team/coach. That's where many long term supporters seem to be. You try and find reasons to be optimistic and continue to support the team but you've been let down too many times to be very positive. We very seldom win the games that we classify as "crucial wins" yet , at times, we come out and beat teams that we don't expect to beat. Makes it even more frustrating when you see the team's capabilities. Oh Well. No more answers.

In any event, I find myself and 5 of my family members here in Providence after 7 tough hours on the road last night to support this program once again.

Go Pirates

You expect Seton Hall to beat Providence, Xavier away or Villanova at home?

It's called prognostication. And the overwhelming odds are that Seton Hall will lose the next three games ending up at 2-4.

PC and Xavier are not unbeatable. I don't expect a win but like I said before the creighton game... The creighton loss is easily forgotten if we can pull off one of the next three.

Providence, maybe. But I think you're grossly underestimating Xavier. They are a powerhouse, especially at home.

It's hilarious when people post their feelings about how other people post.

Honestly, I'm just tired of complaining. I don't really care anymore.
I care, but I made up my mind almost a year ago, so now I'm just tapping my fingers on the table while I wait for the inevitable change. So I care; I've just divested myself of the Willard era.

Most of us are resigned. What more can be said after watching this coach for 6 years? If anything has changed, they'll win one of the next 3 and in the other two, at least put up a fight.

They've had a week to prepare for this game today, there is no excuses. I'd feel better if Providence had not thrown in a clunker a few days ago.

This is a very interesting day for Pirate fans. What can we expect? No idea. Lol

Experience has (finally) taught me not to expect much from teams under this coach, so bad losses are no longer devastating and wins are pleasant surprises. I find it much less stressful, which is nice. But it also certainly dampens enthusiasm / engagement.

Two straight clunkers for Providence.

LOL. When my buddy SPK is "keepin it real on the message board", all I've got is just shrugging my shoulders, putting on my blue hat, tuning into the broadcast, and seeing what comes on by. :D

Might need my friend Jack, you know, Jack from Tennessee, to help.:)

I'm just curious if we'll see a unified team playing hard and competing or what may appear to be a building level of dysfunction between players and Head Coach. If it's the later, the season can go in the sitter very quickly.

I don't early care if we lose this game, but I think it's important that were competitive and playing hard for 40 minutes. Willard had the whole week to clear the constipation that was glaringly evident. Let's see what happens.
