The Governor

My guess is that no matter how many seats he gets they are on the University.

It is also safe to say that if he has an extra it is not going to Chuck Schumer.

Christie is the best governor that state has ever had. If he were governor 15 years ago I might still be living in the TAX & Insurance capital of the world.

Triple chins is a big fat ass bully . . . Cant wait to boo him loudly

Unfortunately, the way both teams are playing, Christie will be the most exciting thing in the building.

not sure why there is negativity for christie; i tend to be a dem but he did what the state needed to have happen

Only in New Jersey could people find someone who's pissed off at everything all the time "refreshing."

Unfortunately, there are still people that blindly follow a party rather than evaluate someone on what they actually accomplish. I didn't vote for him, but I'm with you he's doing what needs to be done.

The only thing he has done is taken away money from the towns. The towns no longer have $ so they are laying off Cops left and right. Look how well it has worked for Newark. Camden is already bad. It is going to be even worse now. Good job fatty! Keep it up.

Thank you for validating my post.

Christie is a bully, but I love what he has tried to do thus far.

He is a closet Notre Dame fan.

The State needs tough love now and Christie has the balls to do it.

The problem about Christie is that he's a prosecutor, and as such has that same "conviction psychology" that served him well as an attorney. Abbe Smith of Georgetown Law documents this pretty well, noting a "tendency toward self-importance and cynicism bred by the prosecutors’ role and institutional culture."

In short, Christie always thinks he's right about everything, and as such is utterly incapable of amenability when he isn't. Combine that with the fact that he's a Republican donor-turned-US Attorney with little-to-no knowledge of economics, and we have a recipe for disaster. He has a tendency to assign blame instead of honestly confronting issues and to play to popular sentiment in lieu of taking nuanced, long-term views.

Ironically enough, people talk about how we need to "reduce the size of government," all the while forgetting that Corzine was the first to do exactly that in over sixty years.

THe state was and is still on the verge of economic collapse. He saw what had to be done. I always thought teachers were under paid. Till you factor in their tenure and pensions. It's sad when the cuts come. Some of the best and brightest younger ones don't have a chance simply cause some one has been doing it for 10 yrs longer. Even though they lost the passion for it 15 yrs prior.

With all he has done, I haven't seen my property taxes go down. Real smart move by missing out on $268 mil in federal education funds because he didn't do the paperwork.

Why??? He's a SHU alum. Liberal "please everyone" typical BS

Perhaps you should talk to your legislators who refused the hard cap on property estate taxes Christie was pushing for. Tell me how he is going to reduce property taxes when everything he proposes to do so is met with resistance from the Democrats?

This is getting very off topic. Please remember this is a basketball board and for BASKETBALL not politics thanks guys.. Ha got to give it back since every one says it to me.

Lets all just boo the triple chin bully and call it a day

Wow, either a lot of cops and teachers went to Seton Hall or there has been too much kool aid drinking from the Star Ledger and left media who are scared witless by Christie.

Thankfully based on his approval ratings, our group here is not representative.

A governor who fights for taxpayers and isn't intimidated by the real "fat bully" of NJ politics (the unions). Yeah let's go back to an out of touch Midwesterner who was the CEO of Goldman Sachs or better yet a corrupt and economically illiterate former mayor who was not only cheating on his wife with another man, but a man who also happened to be the agent of a foreign intelligence service who he placed into a six figure a year job as head of homeland security for the state.

My guess is he gets a standing ovation, I bet the odds are 7-2 boos are not even heard. What do you think the line would be?

Christie's latest approval rating is at 51%. Both Corzine and McGreevey had similar numbers in their early years.

If towns need more money, shouldn't they be the ones to raise it? Why do people who live in other NJ towns not even remotely close to Camden and Newark have to pay for the bloated public expenses of corrupt cities?

And your name-calling hypocrisy continues to shine through. At least you are a consistent hypocrite.

Maybe because your property taxes are controlled by your local town and 67% of it is in Board of Ed expenses? Do you vote in the Board of Ed elections each April?

LOL you don't even know where your property taxes go to, obviously. The teachers lost FAR more money from the feds than that by refusing to go along with OBAMA and have pay scale based on merit. But keep spitting out the talking points!!! LOL.

SPK - 100% right on.

Teachers did not lose any money from Schundler and Christie's mistake. School districts lost funding that would have been used educational purposes. Teachers are paid by monies that are raised by property taxes. That lost affected the schools directly, not teacher's salaries.

The issue is not whether teachers are paid fairly or not. They get a very fair wage today when you look at their jobs vs. private sector. The two issues that need to be addressed are benefits/pension and instituting a pay-for-performance system that further rewards good teachers and allows for poor ones to be removed. Their benefits far exceed the private sector and we can't afford them going forward. Until we address both your property taxes will continue to climb and the quality of education will continue to deteriorate. You can choose to ignore reality, but that's it, plain and simple.

Aah, the poor private sector hasn't gotten their bonuses for a couple of yrs. My heart breaks for them. Instead of all those huge bonues for so many yrs, maybe they should have thought about shoring up their health benefits, or better yet becoming teachers, cops, or firefighters. They seem to envy them so much right now. As an aside, New Jersey schools are ranked among the highest in the nation. If you don't like paying those property taxes for them, move to Tennessee, Louisiana, Bama, Utah. Real bang for the buck there.

I see you must have failed math Muggsy, because no matter how you cut it the numbers won't work with the benefit and pension cliff. Private sector cut those things a long time ago or else they would have gone out of business (or have the government bail them out...lol). In case you didn't notice (and I know you didn't) our property taxes per capita are over $1,000/year higher than the next closest state (Connecticut). Bang for the buck??? How about Newark that has the highest spend per child (over $24,000), and a 46% graduation rate. Maybe you should go help Zuckerberg, Christie and Booker throw more money at it.

Surely you jest. I could care less about Zuckerberg, Christie and Booker, and for that matter Newark. Until these children are raised in loving, caring and nuturing homes, there will be little the inter city schools can do. Work in one of them, and then I dare you to defend "No Child left Behind," or The Abbot Ruling. Zuckerberg can give Christie, Booker and Ophray 1 billion $'s, and there still won't be any improvement in Newark, Camden, Paterson et. al.

Hey,MGA and Muggsy, I have just viewed a series of pictures of Michelle Obama. I await with great expectation your critiques of her figure, especially as she's telling the rest of us what to eat. LoL
