BOWLING GREEN, FLA. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will return to tournament action for three rounds of golf at the 2021 BIG EAST Championship at Streamsong Resort, April 26-28.

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT:
It's a nine-team, 54-hole, stroke play Championship. Teams compete in groups of three. The event is conducted over four days with each team's five members playing a practice round of 18 holes on day one and one 18-hole round on days two, three and four.

THE FIELD:
For the BIG EAST Championship, the field is limited to only the 10 men's golf teams of the conference. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 protocols, St. John's was forced to pull out of the Championship leaving only nine competing teams. This includes (in order of Golfstat ranking): Marquette (98), Connecticut (143), Creighton (186), Butler (199), Seton Hall (200), DePaul (217), Xavier (221), Villanova (229) and Georgetown (248).

The Seton Hall Lineup:
  1. Deven Ramachandran, Junior
  2. Andres Acevedo, Senior
  3. Gregor Tait, Senior
  4. Alex McAuley, Graduate
  5. Peter Tyler Po, Junior
McAuley will play rounds one and three, Po will play rounds one and two, while freshman Brody Hanley will play rounds two and three.

LAST TIME OUT:
Senior Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) each fired a 4-over-par, 75, to pace the Seton Hall men's golf team to a 13th place finish at the 2021 Rutherford Intercollegiate on April 18.

Acevedo birdied holes No. 15 and 17 to fuel his round. For the tournament, he tied for 43rd place with a 10-over-par, 75-73-75-223. Ramachandran had 12 pars in round three. He finished one stroke behind Acevedo for the tournament with an 11-over-par, 78-71-75-224.

As a team, Seton Hall shot a 21-over-par, 305, in Sunday's final round. For the two-day event, the Pirates were 48-over-par with a 300-295-305-900. Host Penn State won the team event at even-par. Fellow BIG EAST competitors Connecticut finished in sixth place at 13-over-par, while Georgetown was 10 strokes behind the Pirates at 58-over-par.

The top individual for the tournament was senior Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England), who shot a 6-over-par, 77, in round three. For the tournament, he tied for 39th place among 75 individual golfers with a 9-over-par, 72-73-77-222. Evan Brown of Loyola (Md.) won the individual title by six strokes at a remarkable 11-under-par.

FORMAT / TEE TIMES:
The field will play one round on each day with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. all three days. The Pirates will be paired with golfers from DePaul and Butler, teeing off at 8:50 a.m. for Monday's first round.

Acevedo Fuels Pirates in First Round of BIG EAST Championship​

Acevedo fires a 2-under-par, 70, and is tied for fourth place among all golfers.​


BOWLING GREEN, FLA. – Senior Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) fired a 2-under-par, 70, to fuel the Seton Hall men's golf team in round one of the 2021 BIG EAST Championship at Streamsong Resort on Monday.

Acevedo was brilliant in the opening round, recording three birdies on the front nine and splashing with an eagle on the par-5, No. 14 hole. After 18 holes, he's tied for fourth place among all individual golfers. Acevedo trails the individual leader, Butler's Michael Cascino, by four strokes entering tomorrow's second round.

As a team, the Pirates were stellar in round one, firing an 8-over-par, 296. Butler currently leads the field following a first-round 3-under-par, 285.

Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) had a team-high six birdies on Monday, shooting a consistent 1-over-par on the front nine and on the back nine. After round one, Tait is tied for 18th with a 2-over-par, 74.

Juniors Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) and Peter Tyler Po (Nasipit Cebu City, Philippines) are currently tied for 29th, each shooting a 4-over-par, 76. Ramachandran had a rough start to his day, but was even-par over the final 11 holes. Po was the opposite. He birdied his first two holes of the morning, but was 6-over-par over the final 14.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup was Alex McAuley (Douglas, Isle of Man). The graduate student was 1-under-par through six holes, but was 9-over through the final 12. He's currently tied for 38th with an 8-over-par, 80.

Ramachandran, Hanley Lead Strong Second Round​

Seton Hall's 3-over-par, 291, reduces its deficit to 10 strokes entering round three.​


BOWLING GREEN, FLA. – Junior Deven Ramachandran (San Rafeal, Calif.) and freshman Brody Hanley (Lantana, Texas) each shot an even-par, 72, to power the Seton Hall men's golf team in round two of the 2021 BIG EAST Championship at Streamsong Resort on Tuesday.

Ramachandran was three-over-par through the first seven holes, but was brilliant from then on. The junior was 3-under-par over his final 11 holes, which included a birdie on hole No. 13 and an eagle on No. 14. Entering Wednesday's final round, Ramachandran is in 20th place at 4-over-par with a 76-72-148.

Hanley didn't participate in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship, but proved to be a major shot in the arm in round two. The Pirate newcomer had three birdies and was consistently even-par on both the front and back nines.

Collectively, the Pirates took a step forward on Tuesday, shaving five strokes off their first-round score to card a 3-over-par, 291. It was the second-best team round of the day, and enabled The Hall to climb one spot in the standings to fourth place. Through 36 holes, Seton Hall is 11-over-par with a 296-291-587.

Connecticut is the current team leader at 1-over-par. Marquette is in second at 3-over-par, and Butler is just one stroke ahead of the Pirates at 10-over-par.

Senior Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) shaved a stroke off his first-round score to finish with a 1-over-par, 73. Tait had a team-high four birdies on Tuesday, including his final of the day, the par-4, 18th hole. Through two rounds, he is tied for 15th place at 3-over-par with a 74-73-147.

Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) birdied his first two holes of the day in route to a 2-over-par, 74, on Tuesday. The senior is still the Pirates' top competitor for the Championship and is currently tied for seventh place among all golfers at even-par with a 70-74-144.

Butler's Michael Cascino remains the individual leader at 6-under-par.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup on Tuesday was junior Peter Tyler Po (Nasipit Cebu City, Philippines), who logged his second consecutive 4-over-par, 76. Po was even-par through 11 holes, but struggled a bit down the stretch to finish at 4-over. For the tournament, he's 8-over-par with a 76-76-152.

Tait, Acevedo Lift Pirates to BIG EAST Third Place Finish​

Tait, Acevedo tie for fifth place to earn a spot on the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.​


BOWLING GREEN, FLA. – Senior Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) fired a 3-under-par, 69, in the final round to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a third-place finish at the 2021 BIG EAST Championship at Streamsong Resort on Wednesday.

Tait was brilliant on Wednesday, using five birdies to record the top Pirate round of the tournament. Tait tied for fifth place among all individual golfers, which qualified him for BIG EAST All-Tournament Team honors. For the tournament, he shot an even-par, 74-73-69-216.

Today's round was the 14th of his remarkable career, which is tied for seventh-most in Seton Hall history. It's his third career top-5 finish.

Collectively, Seton Hall had another strong round on Wednesday, firing a 7-over-par, 295, the second-best third-round of the field. The performance helped the Pirates vault Butler and finish in third place among the nine-team field. For the three-day event, The Hall was 18-over-par with a 296-291-295-882. Connecticut won the team title at 5-over-par. Marquette finished second at 11-over-par.

Seton Hall's 882 total score is its lowest at the BIG EAST Championship since shooting an 877 at Innisbrook in 2010.

Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) had three birdies on Wednesday and was 1-under-par on the back nine in route to an even-par, 72, in round three. The senior also qualified for the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team, tying for fifth place overall with his teammate Gregor Tait with an even-par, 70-74-72-216.

The performance is Acevedo's first career top-5 finish.

Junior Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) finished his tournament with an 8-over-par, 80, on Wednesday. He was just 2-over-par through 12 holes, but struggled mightily on holes No. 13 and No. 18. For the event, Ramachandran was 12-over-par with a 76-72-80-228.

Alex McAuley (Douglas, Isle of Man) was back in the Pirates' lineup for round three and fired a 4-over-par, 76. The graduate student was just 1-over-par on the back nine, which included two birdies and an eagle on the par-5, No. 14 hole. McAuley shaved four strokes off his prior round, an 8-over-par, 80, in round one.

Seton Hall led the field with three eagles for the tournament. McAuley, Acevedo and Ramachandran all eagled the 14th hole.

Freshman Brody Hanley (Lantana, Texas) shot a 6-over-par, 78, in Wednesday's final round. He was only 3-over-par, but suffered a triple-bogey on the par-5, No. 17 hole. Hanley registered an even-par, 72, in round two, his lone other round this tournament.
