Park-Lane scored her 39 points on 11-for-19 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-4 from three-point, range and 15-for-19 from the free-throw line. She also had nine assists and four rebounds. Park-Lane's performance breaks the former record of 38 points scored twice by former Pirates star Tabatha Richardson-Smith, most recently against Illinois on Dec. 9, 2014.

Trailing after the first quarter, the Pirates opened the second with a 15-0 run and never trailed again.

Cooks also had a tremendous night, scoring 29 points on 12-for-19 shooting, including 4-for-6 from three-point range. She also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Blue Demons: DePaul leads, 23-7

Earlier This Season:
Seton Hall 89, DePaul 82 (F) – February 13, 2023 (Walsh Gym)

SCOUTING DE PAUL
This year, the Blue Demons were picked to finish tied for fourth, with the Pirates, in the BIG EAST Preseason coaches' poll. DePaul lost three starters to graduation, but return All-America forward Aneesah Morrow and top guard Darrione Rogers. Morrow was a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

The Blue Demons enter Wednesday's contest with a 13-13 mark overall and a 6-9 record in BIG EAST play. DePaul has dropped nine of its last 12 games, including the last two. Despite the team's recent woes, Morrow has been one of the top players in the country. She currently ranks fourth in the country with 25.2 points per game and eighth in rebounding with 11.6 per contest. DePaul's 76.8 points per game rank second-best in the BIG EAST, but their 71.9 points allowed per contest is the worst in the conference.

Another huge game for their season. Park-Lane and Cooks have to go right back at DePaul. That’s the formula.. All of them as a team have to play better defense., In the last two they are getting beat to the spot and it has resulted in easy baskets in close.. They are not fighting for their turf enough near the paint. Cannot concede the space.

Hall lead 26-24 after 0ne quarter. Good offense by SHU. LPL with only 2 so far. Getting hurt on the boards.

Tied 41-41 at the half. Baines with a big half. Too many second chance points by DePaul. They need a solid second half. Offense looking good tonight.

Hall has the lead 67-66 after three quarters. SHU has come back 3 times from 7-point deficits. They are struggling on the defensive end. Very nice balanced scoring tonight. Every one contributing. They have to elevate the defense and box out in the 4th quarter.

DePaul win 94-89. Hall just could not get it done on defense and the boards tonight. LPL did not play one of her typical games. The offense was good enough. The Hall perimeter defense was good until the last quarter. As usual it did not hold up in the 4th quarter of a big game. DePaul with 11 3 pointers for the game.

This was a huge nail in the SHU chances to make the NCAA's. Their defense has been just brutal in the last 4 games. The team gave a great effort tonight but came up short. Not enough ability to defend the paint on this roster. Plus, the perimeter defense broke down late. The hall had a 7-point lead in the 4th. They have a chance for the NCAAs, but they will need a couple of upsets it looks like.

Baines erupted for a career-high 27 points, while Sidney Cooks collected her 1,000th in a Pirate uniform.

CHICAGO – Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) scored a career-high 27 points, and Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) added 21 more, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell at DePaul, 94-89, on Wednesday.

In a game of runs, DePaul had the latest one, an 11-2 spurt that turned a five-point deficit into a four-point lead with just 1:33 left in the contest. The Blue Demons were able to ice the game late on the free-throw line as they were 17-for-18 from the stripe for the game.

Baines had 27 points on an efficient 11-for-15 from the floor to go with six rebounds.

Cooks had 21 points, her fifth straight game reaching at least 21, to go with six rebounds. She also became only the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 points in a Seton Hall uniform. Senior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) tallied a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 11 assists.

THE STORY:
DePaul raced out to a 7-0 start with all seven points scored by Aneesah Morrow, prompting an early Seton Hall timeout. Down 14-8, The Hall went on an 8-0 run, and a jumper by Cooks gave The Hall its first lead of the game, 16-14 with 4:49 left in the first. The Pirates shot 68.8% in the opening quarter, but led by just two, 26-24, after the first 10 minutes.

The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair with neither team grabbing a lead greater than three points. Both teams shot better than 50.0% in the first half with rebounding and turnovers virtually even. The teams were tied at 41 at the break.

A jumper by Mya Bembry (West Orange, N.J.) gave The Hall a 45-43 lead early in the third, but DePaul responded with a 9-0 run to give them a 52-45 advantage with 7:27 left in the quarter. The Pirates battled back to tie the score at 54, but DePaul took off again with a 9-2 run to grab a 63-56 lead with 2:50 left in the third. In the final two minutes, The Hall closed the quarter with an 11-3 run, and Cooks' step-back three-pointer sent them into the fourth up, 67-66.

The Hall opened the fourth with four quick points by Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) to give it a 71-66 lead. DePaul battled back to cut their deficit to just one, but then The Hall took off again and a jumper by Cooks in the lane put The Hall back up, 81-76, with 4:30 to play. DePaul answered with an 11-2 run to grab an 87-83 lead with just 1:33 to go. The Pirates cut their deficit to just two on a bucket by Baines with 30 seconds left, but the Blue Demons were able to ice the game on the free-throw line.

THE NUMBERS:
  • Seton Hall was 37-for-65 (56.9%) from the floor for the game, while DePaul was 33-for-70 (47.1%). The Hall was 5-for-9 (55.6%) from three-point range, while the Blue Demons were 11-for-25 (44.0%).
  • Baines had a career-high 27 points on 11-for-15 shooting to go with six rebounds and three assists.
  • DePaul out-rebounded The Hall, 37-to-30, including a 16-to-8 edge on the offensive glass and an 20-to-12 advantage in second-chance points.
  • Cooks finished with 19 points on 8-for-13 shooting, including 3-for-3 from three-point range to go with six rebounds.
  • Seton Hall was 10-for-11 (90.9%) from the free-throw line, while DePaul was 17-for-18 (94.4%).
  • Park-Lane had 16 points and a game-high 11 assists.
  • Both teams had 12 turnovers each.
  • Alexia Allesch (Basking Ridge, N.J.) finished with 10 points, on the strength of 2-for-4 from three-point range, to go with five rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
THE NOTES:
  • Seton Hall drops to 16-11 overall and 9-8 in the BIG EAST, while DePaul improves to 14-13 overall and 7-9 in conference play.
  • The Hall is now 7-24 all-time against the Blue Demons.
  • With 19 points tonight, Cooks became the 25th player in program history to record 1,000 career points in a Pirates' uniform. Most impressively, she did it in less than two full seasons.
  • This was only the third time this season that Seton Hall has lost despite out-shooting its opponent (17-3).
  • Park-Lane's double-double is her third of the season and 11th of her career.

Lost it because DE PAUL had 16 offensive rebounds which leads to too many second shot opportunities . Rebounding has been a problem all year.
