PHILADELPHIA - The Seton Hall women's basketball team won its fourth-straight game to open the 2015-16 season with a 66-54 victory at Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon. Tiffany Jones (New York, N.Y.) posted a monster 16-point, 14-rebound double-double and Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) scored 21 points to lead The Hall (4-0).
In their first road contest of the season, the Pirates led by a point after a quarter before opening up a 12-point halftime advantage. The Hall pulled ahead by as many as 21 in the third quarter and led by double-digits throughout the second half. Jones' 14 rebounds were part of a 50-32 edge on the glass for the Pirates, their highest rebound total and rebound margin of the season.

Lubirdia Gordon (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) had a career day for The Hall with 12 points and seven rebounds while Shakena Richardson (Neptune, N.J.) led the way with seven assists. For Saint Joseph's (0-2), Sarah Fairbanks led the way with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Turning Point

After a sluggish first quarter that left The Hall leading by only a point, Richardson-Smith caught fire in the second quarter. The senior knocked down four 3-pointers in the frame and totaled 14 points in the stanza to help the Pirates take a 38-26 halftime lead to the locker room.

Inside The Numbers

- The Pirates grabbed a season-high 50 rebounds and were +18 in rebounding margin, also a season-best

- Lubirdia Gordon scored a career-high 12 points, including nine in the first half

- Tabatha Richardson-Smith eclipsed 20 points for the second time this season and 23rd time in her career

- Jones recorded her second double-double of the season and the third of her career and tied a career-high with 14 rebounds

- The Pirates shot 42.9 percent (9-21) from 3-point range, led by a 4-for-4 performance from Jones and a 5-for-9 effort from Richardson-Smith

- The contest marked Seton Hall's first road game of the season and the first of five in a row away from South Orange

- Tabatha Richardson-Smith moved into seventh in Seton Hall history with 1,398 career points

- Tiffany Jones has scored in double-figures in every game this season and six-straight contests dating back to last season

- The Pirates improve to 8-4 all-time against Saint Joseph's

One of reasons Tony is so popular, liked and respected is that when he thanks the fans he genuinely means it and he's not saying it because it's expected and is a pro - forma thanks.

Not traveling to follow the team. Traveling for business and it looks like I will be traveling on the same flight as the WBB team. Just said hi to Tony and congratulated a few of the players on the team for their great performance. I usually hate sitting at Gate A but being surrounded by the team and SHU folks is a terrific surprise. Go Pirates!!
