THE GAME
Seton Hall will return to action on Sunday, February 6 when it faces Butler in Indianapolis. Tip time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.

LAST GAME
Five Pirates scored at least 14 points, and the Pirates outlasted Xavier in an offensive shootout, 91-86, in Walsh Gym on Friday afternoon.

Seton Hall matched its season-high for points, while Xavier had a season-best, and both teams shot at least 50.0% from the field in a contest that featured eight lead changes and eight ties.

For a second straight night, Andra Espinoza-Hunter (Ossining, N.Y.) led the Pirates in scoring with 20 points to go with five assists and three rebounds. Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) notched a double-double with 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting and a team-high 10 rebounds. Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.), Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio) and Curtessia Dean (Monroe, La.) scored 16, 15 and 14 points respectively.

Dean turned in one of her finest efforts as a Pirate with 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting and four rebounds. Eight of her points came in the fourth quarter.

LAST YEAR AGAINST BUTLER
Seton Hall swept the season series with Butler during the abbreviated 2020-21 season, defeating the Bulldogs, 79-64, in Hinkle Fieldhouse and downing them, 83-68, in Walsh Gym.

On Jan. 11, Andra Espinoza-Hunter had a game-high 23 points on the strength of seven made three-pointers and the Pirates defeated Butler, 79-64, in Indianapolis. The Hall used a game-defining 26-3 run spanning 8:33 of the second half to coast to a definitive road victory. Espinoza-Hunter was 7-for-11 from three-point range and had three rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Lauren Park-Lane finished with 18 points, seven assists and had four rebounds.

Six days later, Espinoza-Hunter scored a game-high 24 points and the Pirates downed Butler, 83-68, in Walsh Gym. The Hall drained 15 three-pointers in the game and used an 18-4 run in the first quarter to grab a sizable lead early. Espinoza-Hunter continued her assault from three-point range, draining 6-of-7 shots to fuel her 24-point outburst.

SCOUTING BUTLER
The Bulldogs are coming off a 3-17 season during the abbreviated 2020-21 season and are predicted to finish last in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference, according to the Preseason Coaches' Poll, this year.

Butler is off to a rough start with wins in just one of their first 18 games. The Bulldogs are 0-9 in BIG EAST play and have dropped their last seven contests. Celena Taborn leads Butler with 13.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Because of COVID and poor weather, the Bulldogs haven't played since a 78-62 loss at Georgetown on Jan. 30.

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The Seton Hall women's basketball team held Butler without a field goal for the first 7:12 of the fourth quarter and went on to defeat the Bulldogs, 72-56, in Hinkle Fieldhouse on Sunday for its third straight victory.

During Butler's fourth-quarter drought, The Hall out-scored the Bulldogs, 14-2, to open a significant lead.

For the second straight game, five players reached double-figures in scoring, led by Andra Espinoza-Hunter (Ossining, N.Y.), who had team-highs of 21 points and seven rebounds. Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists with only two turnovers.

The Story:
Trailing 9-8 early, the Pirates closed the first half with a 15-3 run on the strength of four made three-pointers from four different players. Espinoza-Hunter's trifecta with five seconds left before the buzzer send The Hall into the second quarter with a 23-12 lead.

The Hall continued its pressure to open the second quarter, scoring the first five points of the new frame with a three-pointer by Espinoza-Hunter and a jumper from Katie Armstrong (Collegeville, Pa.) to give the Pirates a commanding 28-12 lead with 8:45 to go before the half. Butler responded, however, with an 11-0 run to cut their deficit to 28-23 and force a Pirate timeout. Despite being out-shot, 50.0%-to-46.4%, The Hall took a 36-31 lead into the break.

The Hall started the second half cold from the field, connecting on only two of their first eight shots, and Butler reclaimed the lead, 41-40, with 6:36 left in the third quarter. The Pirates responded with an 8-0 run, and a jumper by Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) put them back on top, 48-41, with 4:01 before the fourth.

The Pirates defense came out strong to open the fourth quarter. The Hall scored the first 10 points of the period to grab a 65-48 lead with 5:03 remaining. Furthermore, The Hall held Butler without a field goal until there was only 2:48 remaining. During the first 7:12, the Pirates enjoyed a 14-2 run to extend their advantage to 69-50.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Seton Hall was 28-for-58 (48.3%) from the floor for the game, while Butler was 21-for-53 (39.6%). The Hall was 10-for-26 (38.5%) from three-point range, while the Bulldogs were 7-for-20 (35.0%).
  • Espinoza-Hunter had a game-high 21 points on the strength of 5-for-9 shooting from three-point range. She also had seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • Butler out-rebounded The Hall, 32-to-30, which included a slim 9-to-8 advantage on the offensive glass.
  • Park-Lane finished with 10 points and a game-high 10 assists with two steals.
  • Seton Hall was 6-for-8 (75.0%) from the free-throw line, while Butler was 7-for-8 (87.5%).
  • Cooks had 12 points and five rebounds.
  • Seton Hall forced 16 turnovers, while Butler forced 12. The Pirates had a 19-to-9 advantage in points-off-turnovers.
  • Curtessia Dean (Monroe, La.) had another strong game with 11 points and three rebounds.
  • Junior Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio) had 10 points, four rebounds and two assists.
