John Honey Russell was a 3 sport star as a player. In Basketball he played for the Original Celtics, He also was a linebacker for the Chicago Bears and reached the AAA level as a pro baseball player. As a Coach he coached SHU in the 1930's- 40,s up to WW2. His team with Bobby Davies set a then NCAA record of 43 consecutive wins. After the war he was the first coach for the Boston Celtics. He then returned to SHU & his 1952-53 team set a then NCAA record winning its first 27 games enroute to a NIT title. Final rankings had hat Pirate team #2 in the Nation. For many years he was also a scout for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves.
