Watching this in dismay and disappointment were Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski and athletic director Kevin White. Somehow, some way, ACC basketball had to regain its mojo.

The master plan, put together with velvet gloves and a soft touch, was simple. Find a way to strengthen the ACC, while weakening the Big East. And then sell it (publicly at least) as a football driven move............

This guy wake up today and finally realize this? Not a well written article....and, with 6 bids, hardly worthy of "best conference ever"

They would hate to admit it, but they have a ways to go, and in reality, they will never match what the old Big East was.....as much as that kills them...

The Big East never had 18 basketball teams as this article says. It was 11 out of 16 that got NCAA bids in 2011, not 2009 as this article says.

This was primarily a football move, though it certainly helped basketball. This was back when the talk was about four 16-team "superconferences." The ACC had to make these moves in order to survive in that model. That's why the Big 12 was brought to the brink of extinction, it was going to be the odd man out. This model may still come down the road, but at least things look somewhat stable for the time being. To say adding these schools to the ACC was purely a basketball move under the guise of football is just not true.

Shoddy article.

UNC has a black cloud over its head that the NCAA will have to act on. Cuse can be good but would be difficult to be great with scholarship reductions and coaches retirement. Pitts recruiting has dropped of after leaving. Pitino's success will be difficult to replace when his retirement date arrives. And coach K isn't 40,50 or 60 anymore.
Long story short, if the ACC plans on being the best conference of all time, they better do it quickly.
