The work continues

I will say this, none of our losses are against Quad 3 or Quad 4 teams. And now 2 straight wins vs a Quad 1 and Quad 2 team. I believe 12-8 in the Big East, with no bad losses to DePaul, Georgetown, or Xavier, and 1 win in the BE Tourney gets us to the dance.

Sweep those 3 teams + our UConn game we are sitting at 7 wins and need to find 5 more in the remaining 13. That would get us to 20 wins. We already have one game we stole. We are on the right track and I believe in our HC to get us there.

Side note; of all our transfers that left, I believe Tae Davis hurt us the most. His size, physicality, and speed off the bench would have been a huge plus on this team that is hard to quantify. What hurts more, although Notre Dame is an amazing educational institution, he left us to go to a team that is currently 4-7 in the ACC.

I do wish him nothing but the best, and have been rooting for him and the other former pirates.

Rutgers Quad 3?

And I’d much rather have Samuel playing the 4 over Tae Davis. That’s the biggest loss. Now it’s probably unlikely that we get Bediako if Samuel stays, but that’s not a 100% certainty. Remember, Arda was the filler.

Starting Richmond, Dawes, Davis, Samuel and Bediako would be better than having Tae IMO.

I prefer Tae because it lengthens our bench. Samuel was a great pirate but he took a lot of the shots and was not the rebounder this guard heavy team needed.

I really like starting lineup right now. Ball movement has been excellent the last 2 games. Just my preference.

Thanks, knew they were on the cusp. Our win over UConn might have pushed them up to Q2 as funny as that sounds. Either way, B1G will likely put them up into Q2.

The Connecticut win was HUGE. These things change so much between now and March. Even right now they're bouncing daily. This morning Rutgers is #76, Xavier is #72, Seton Hall #81. If we win tomorrow, you need to root for both Rutgers and Xavier to finish in the NET Top 75. I think Rutgers has a legit chance too, I'm weary about Xavier doing it.

Missouri should be able to stay within the Top 100 to keep that a Q2 game.

I think we will know very early in the season (like the first 6 games) how many wins we can possibly get. We probably have 3 of our most winnable road games in the first 6. If you get 2 wins against (Xavier, Gtown and Butler), you have a good chance of getting 3 sweeps (DePaul, and those 2 teams). Assume we get swept by Marquette, we would just then need to split against the remaining teams to get to 11 wins.

We are getting way ahead of ourselves, but our first 6 games will give some clarity to the rest of season. And in fairness to Sha, we are pretty good on the road so winning other road games later in year is not out of the question.

I've seen Xavier numerous times. They have not looked impressive. Plus they just lost to a mid Big East team in St Johns by 15. Need to stop Olivari who has gone for 20 a few times.
To have a chance to dance I think we have to sweep them.
We have played very well on their court. A very near miss last year and before that won 3 or 4 in a row.

Seton Hall is currently 1-1 in Q3 (home loss to #76 Rutgers). Hopefully they can stay in the Q2 range for the rest of the season.

Tyrese is averaging 8.6 rebounds a game this year. He would lead the team. Bediako is at eight per.

For that matter he led the team last year at 5.9 but he's playing about four-and-a-half minutes per game more than he did a year ago.

I'd have rather kept Samuel over Davis. I think we go after and get Bediako and they play together up front. You then lengthen the bench by having either DAW or Dre Davis come off the bench. Tyrese might hate it but he'd probably do what he's doing at UF which is split minutes between the four and five

I do like Tae Davis but I'm still not sure he starts for this team even without Samuel. I honestly think Sha runs out the same five he's currently starting with Tae filling a bench role.
