Thoughts from an old time Pirate fan

Fifty years ago was my first year buying season tickets for SHU. I was a die-hard fan, sitting not far away from SnakeTom and his horn. Raf at the helm and rooted for players like Ramsay, Lape and the LaCorte brothers.

Never missed a game and always got excited on game day. Good teams, bad teams didn’t matter. As a 2 time alum I bled Pirate Blue.

I moved from the area a while back and missed going to the games while watching them all on the tube. Until now. Maybe age is getting the best of me but for the first time ever I am starting to turn off the TV during games.

Before the season I had hopes that Sha’s return would energize the players and we’d put a decent product on the court. Now, I shudder at the sight of the missed FTs, layups, 3s and lack of focus and fire. There is not one member of the team that excites me.

I’m losing interest after 50 years. Call me a fair weather fan if you must. I deserve it, but watching is becoming painful. And suffering is overtaking the joy of fandom.

I just thought I’d share my thoughts with you here to get this off my chest. In the scheme of things I guess I’m over-reacting to something that’s just an insignificant game. Or maybe I’m just getting old and irritable.

Dan, please delete this post if you feel it’s warranted.

At any rate, I hope the Pirates can turn it around and wish them luck.

Happy New Year to all.
