Thoughts on the Jim Hauge Story

Jim Hauge, I don't know who you are, and I dont know why you love bashing college kids so much but there is a reason your article is only on a blog called Jim Hague Sports. You have no readers so you take facts and beef them up and stretch the truth.

Many of the things said in his story are true, taken from second hand sources (if that), he never lists sources, and is written in complete bias bashing everyone in his path.

However I feel the need to comment on the Whitehead posse section. I do not know who he knows around the program, because the man does not even attend home games let alone practices, but this simply is not true.

I am sure that Isaiah occasionally has one or two friends come to campus every now and then, who doesn't? However I know a student who lives on campus and lives near the team and has stated many many times that the only "posse" Isaiah is always with, is his teammates.

His reports of 8 people who are a type of posse around whitehead like he is a rapper or Floyd Mayweather, are so far from the truth. I feel so bad for these kids that Jim Hauge is trashing, and spreading lies about. Isaiah is a confident basketball player, all division 1 players have to be, however he is not Isaiah Briscoe, who actually does roll around with a squad of 8 people. Whitehead is down to earth and has been see walking alone on campus countless times. This posse is a lie Jim.

looking at the website the story is on, and the fact that zero sources are ever cited in his stories, only one, Mergin Sina, that states that his claims are not true ...............does not surprise me. Really gives real journalism and sources like Adam Zagoria, Jon Rothstein, and even Chris McManus a bad rap

Yeah, but I'm sure Hague saw him hanging out with 8 friends one time...so they must all have dorm rooms and carte Blanche to attend practices and hang out in the locker room...that is of course because Tiny approves of it. I think a lot of this stuff sounds so blown out of proportion...after all, we are talking about a team that has done nothing in a decade.

The story had a little bit of venom in it. I would agree. Was more editorial than reporting--lots more--and probably not the most objective thing he's written--just a guess since I've only read two of his stories to date. His analysis is pretty good, particularly on Willard. I base that on what folks have been saying here over the last few months. Other than a few additional details and the Gibbs news peg, I didn't see much of a difference between the two columns.

He definitely threw a high hard one with the Gonzo reference. That bothered me some as a fan, and I've got thick skin for what people write. Might be a good idea for him to step back a bit from the story. He may have taken the criticism of his race angle in the first piece to heart after it was rejected. Here's how I see it: He's a longtime writer who now blogs. There's nothing wrong with that. He's not with the Times of New York or Trenton. Take it for what it's worth, an experienced sportswriter who has a better seat than most, even as a blogger. However, it is hard to say how close he is without seeing quotes or classic reporting. As a reader, you have to trust whoever he is speaking to is right there. It's a column--and I stress column--with an edge. Like in a cafeteria, you take what you want and leave the rest.

This thing reads like a skip bayless tirade on first take. Guy sounds real bitter about aomething

Jim Hack Hague His blog lacks many facts and includes a lot of made up assumptions, it is a blog written by someone with an agenda! If it was in print form it would not be worth the paper it was written on but it is a blog which gives it less credibility.

Mean while all of the beat writers allude to stuff Jim wrote, get a clue already.

This poster had become Willard's Captain and a true shu fan sees it.

Willard = Nero

I wonder if the Associated Press, which uses Jim Hague's filings all the time, has any idea what a hack he is?

More ostriching by our fans...

I don't look at Hague as a hack at all, he cares about SHU and hates to see what is being done to the program by people who don't care and are only collecting paychecks.

I will address the posse comment.

I have been to a ton of practices and never once saw anyone connected to Whitehead in attendance.

After every game this season that I attended I had access to the locker room area and not one time did I see a posse.

FWIW, I walk past the players on campus pretty often and I've only maybe once or twice seen what could be considered a 'posse' and they were just sitting on the benches in front of a dorm building. I'm pretty sure all but one of them were on the team.

Regarding the article: it feels like a product of emotion rather than reason, and we shouldn't really get worked up over it. We deal with enough just being fans of this team as it is :p

Everyone has an agenda against Willard? Please. The proof is in the pudding. The team has stunk for 5 years, players leave, and we're going nowhere fast.

The only thing he's changed is that we do not have poorly behaved players like Gonzo did (at least as far as the public knows).

Jim Hack Hague - posse, made up b.s. ! Credibility ?

You are the last person that should be calling anyone out on credibility. I supported Willard, right up until Sina left. It was clear to some, much earlier, that he had lost control of the locker room (or never had it). You are the worst of pollyannas, and make anyone who ever supported this coach look terrible.

See, I told all of you that Jim Hague is trying to take false shots at Whitehead. Forget all the Willard stuff, this "reporter" is writing lies about one of our student athletes trying to portray him in a bad light, bringing no quotes or sources.

Every person who lives near them or interacts with them on campus has commented saying the team only hangs out with eachother

I gotta agree here. The thing that he was most adamant about in the whole post was Whitehead's "posse" which multiple people who spend time on campus have said does not exist. Most of what he wrote could very well be true but that does not mean he has some type of inside scoop, especially when his central thesis is fundamentally flawed.
