Not a ton of stuff but I did speak to someone who has had recent access to the staff.
She told me that it is so obvious that KW is having a great time coaching this team. He loved his senior class last season, but expectations and being in the gym with the same core guys for 4 years took its toll and got stale. Now he is facing a new challenge and the difference is night and day.
In short "coach is rejuvenated".
The Nelson love is not manufactured or exaggerated as some of coach's comments have been in years past coming out of preseason practice. He generally loves what Nelson is giving him and what he projects as the freshmen matures. His words were that our fans don't understand how good our two points are (include McKnight) and that he has absolutely no worries about that position moving forward.
Our D is going to be so much better than it has been recently. As is Willard's want he would never criticize his players, but it's clear that the guard position, especially the point will be greatly improved.
The middle is still a question mark when TT is playing, but at his worst he is comparable to Angel and of course when Gill is playing the improvement is vast.
One final thing.....inconsistency. There are times when TT stands out, to the point that he is clearly the most talented player on the team. But there are other times when he is just normal on the court. That is frustrating for the staff because if you can do it on occasion then you can do it most every time you are practicing.
With the news I am getting re Thompson I now believe he and not Mamu is the most important player on the team. I thought with his major talent he would be a given, but now until I see differently Taurean might just be the key to the season.
