Email from a coach I know who is close to Tommy......

I just wanted to let you know Tommy Mayhan’s uncle got a message to me that Tommy is with the Israeli army right now.. And we all think we’re having a bad day sometimes - or we all think we are under pressure. I had dinner in California with Tommy a couple years ago - after he had left Seton Hall. He was still so proud of his days with us at Hall. That night Tommy wore a SH shirt so proudly… Please say a prayer for him…

I got to know Tommy and his uncle (parent like figure) well in his short time here. Tommy was a youngster who never played a second in this country and as a freshmen, not ready for prime time, was thrown into a terrible situation on an undermanned team.

Maayan would never had been a star but given time and the proper circumstance would have been an outstanding representative of all that is Pirate Blue.

I so wish our readers would have gotten to know TM as I did and knew the situation behind the scenes that led to his leaving for military service in Israel halfway through his sophomore year.

Tommy made a big steal late in the Nova game which allowed Fuquan to hit a 3 to upset Nova.

I always remember Willard praising Tommy and saying he is doing exactly what i expect him to do. While he needed some polishing on the offensive end, i remember him being a very good defensive player.

I don't know if this has been previously posted, but i read that when the war started two former Pirate players playing professionally in Israel Isiah Whitehead and Kadeen Carrington were both flown out of Israel and to safety in Greece. The article noted that Carrington had applied for Israely citizenship. Both had been in contact with Shaheen after the war started.
