Seton Hall opens a challenging West Coast Road trip at USC tonight at 9pm. Live Stream available. The Hall needs to win at least one of these 3 games. USC 7-2 to start the season. So only a few more games than the Pirates have played.

I am at the game. 5-1 in the bottom of the 4th.

USC does not traditionally draw that well for baseball because they haven’t been good in years.

Go Pirates!

The Pirates get out of the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the 7th. The left fielder made a good catch for the 3rd our (probably one he should make but not an easy one).

5-2 going into the top of the 8th.

USC gets a run in the 8th but strands 2 on the bases.

SHU 6 USC 3 going into the 9th

The Hall jumped out to a 4-0 lead early and it took the series-opener in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES –
Junior Casey Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a solo home run and junior Ryan McLinskey (Pearl River, N.Y.) turned in another quality start on the mound as the Seton Hall baseball team claimed game one of a three-game series against USC, 6-3, on Friday evening.

McLinskey (2-0) went 5.2 innings and struck out six batters in his third career start to help the Pirates improve to 4-3 on the season. Sophomore Nick Payero (Monroe, N.J.) registered his first save as a Pirate. Along with Dana, junior Thomas Holdorf (Freehold, N.J.) also had two RBI for the Hall.

What Happened:
Following a single to lead off the game, senior Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.) moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and went to third after a walk and a hit by pitch. With one out, redshirt junior Christian Del Castillo (Miami, Fla.), drove Shedler-McAvoy home on a single to right field that gave the Pirates an early 1-0 lead.

An RBI walk drawn by junior Jeremy Huntzinger (Staten Island, N.Y.) with the bases loaded made it 2-0 Seton Hall and later, with two outs, Holdorf drove two more runs in to extend the Pirates' lead to 4-0 in the first inning.

The Trojans got a run back in the home half of the frame but a solo home run from Dana put Seton Hall back on top by four, 5-1, in the top of the third. On the mound, McLinskey would go on to retire nine of the next 10 batters between the second and fourth innings.

A solo home run led off the bottom of the sixth for USC before McLinskey and Patten combined to retire the side. The Seton Hall bats came alive again in the top of the eighth when back-to-back one out singles from senior Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.) and senior Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.) set the stage for Dana once again who drove Hood home on an RBI single of his own, adding some much needed insurance.

USC scored again in the bottom of the eighth but senior Corey Sawyer (Kearny, N.J.) and Payero held on to give the Pirates the series-opening victory.
