Whitehead played an underwhelming game, but he dominates like no guard in the league on the defensive end. He turned to defense when he couldn't get it going. How many times this year has he singlehandedly stopped a fast break resulting from one of his turnovers?
SHU killed Xavier on the defensive end and boards until the last few minutes when we went into no foul mode.
We are going to have to live with stagnant offense and bonehead plays, but we can compete with anyone with how good our guys are individually and collectively on defense and on the boards.
Just imagine what this team will do when they can put the pieces together offensively (to include free throw shooting). There are not too many teams in the COUNTRY that I like better than SHU going forward assuming everyone returns/matures.
To that end, this game was about the best we could have asked for. We get the big "W" and (based on this game alone), think the argument can be made that IW come back for at least one more year.
