Hailey Davidson is vying to become the first transgender golfer to earn a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour card — despite facing a furious backlash from critics who believe that she has an unfair biological advantage.

Davidson, 29, played two strong rounds at the LPGA Qualifying School in Palm Springs, California, over the weekend, shooting a 70 on Thursday, followed by a 76 the next day, Fox News Digital reported.

LPGA rules dictate that any player who shoots under 88 in all three rounds will earn a 2023 Epson Tour Status, which is the qualifying tour for the LPGA Tour.

The top 100 players will move on to Stage II in October.

Davidson made history by becoming the first trans golfer to win a professional tournament — and the second to play in the first stage of the LPGA Qualifying School, following in the footsteps of Bobbi Lancaster who tried the same in 2013.

But Davidson’s push to join the LPGA Tour has been blasted by elite tennis coach Judy Murray, the mother of former world number one Andy Murray..

“No. Not fair at all,” Judy Murray tweeted on Saturday. “Protect women’s sport. Listen to the facts, the scientists and the medics. This is wrong.”

LPGA removed its “female at birth” requirement in 2010, opening the door to trans athletes — provided that they have undergone hormone treatment and gender reassignment surgery.

Davidson– who was born in Scotland but currently lives in Florida — began hormone therapy in 2015, the same year she last competed as a male at a US Open local qualifying in the Sunshine State.

Davidson underwent gender reassignment surgery last year and said she now hits the ball 15 mph slower.

Davidson said she hits a ball 15 mph slower now, and argued that her critics are speaking out against her because they don’t like trans people.

“I guess that’s what frustrates me the most. If I play bad, then people will feel justified, ‘Oh well, she played bad and wasn’t good enough.,'” she told GolfWeek in 2021. “If I do anything good, it won’t be because of the fact that I put my whole life into this — it would be because I’m trans.”

In an interview on the podcast “Like It is” in July, Davidson talked openly about the transphobia she has encountered.

“I’ve seen that it’s not about protecting women’s sports or me having an advantage, it’s just that you don’t like trans people,” she said.

Davidson, who is competing in a field of 310 women eyeing one of the coveted spots on the LPGA Tour, is currently tied at 59th place.

Davidson has received support from World Golf Hall of Fame member Laura Davies, who argued that if the 29-year-old qualifies to compete under LPGA’s rules, then it’s “game on.”

The debate over Davidson’s participation in a women’s sport echoes the controversy surrounding Lia Thomas, the transgender UPenn swimmer who made history in March when she won the women’s 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA championships.

In June, the swimming world’s governing body, FINA, effectively barred trans athletes like Thomas from competing in all major events — including the Olympics — by ruling that anyone who has not begun transitioning by the age of 12 or the onset of puberty, will not be allowed to race against biological females.

This is absurd. When will so-called feminists defend women sports.

Pat, maybe if you and others respond in a mature way and discuss a burgeoning sports topic of interest there would be no reason to move this thread to another board.

I understand views and posts are slow in the summer. But this thread has nothing to do with 1) Seton Hall or 2) Basketball.

I come here to talk about and read about SHU bball. We've always been told there are other boards for posts that do not cover Pirate Hoops Chat.

The season hasn't started. There is little SHU news to post right now and when there is it's here first.

For years during the summer I post sports topics of interest to keep the board functioning. This year is no different.

Not hard to understand.

I say we allow trans women and straight men to compete in women's sports, to hell with biological women in athletics. "A Modest Proposal" ;)

These guys who can’t compete against other guys need to deal with reality instead of wearing skirts and trying to convince the rest of us they are girls.

Remember…

I never understand the responses when Dan posts something especially during a slow period. If you don’t like the title of the thred don’t read it. How hard is that? Every other thread on the first page it relates to Seton hall or basketball.

Do you complain to a seafood restaurant that has a couple of red meat options? Some of the people that are first to preach tolerance are the most intolerant of the bunch.

Looks like the woke got triggered pretty bad by this thread. Fits their playbook to shut down discussion about anything they don't like and god forbid if someone else has a different opinion.

Just a bunch of buzz words here woke, triggered etc fitting whatever narrative you have made up in your head. My point was Dan regularly complains about threads going off the rails and this is the exact thread that will do that.

I'd be much more interested in seeing a Trans MMA fight to see how the announcers handle it. Them hit them in the head - ooh what a shot. Them is down... Which one is down? Them. But only one of them is down? That's right.

My former English teachers are rolling in their graves.

The last 3 similar threads as posted above did not go off the rails. Instead they were debated properly.

This one to date hasn't either.

Disagree if you want but all I ask is that the comments remain civil. If not then the thread goes to Off the Ship.

Sure I see multiple comments above diving into some BS around left/right woke etc. I don't have to read it yes but I also can say I don't want to see if if thats ok with you and the others above. It is my opinion.

Isn’t that censorship?

It is a seton hall hoops message board. Thats what most of us come here for to chat hoops. What am I censoring? If you want to provide your political beliefs then more power to you, just seems like an odd place to do it.
Dan has already explained numerous times why he posts other topics at certain times of the year. Most posters don’t seem to have a problem with that, they participate and offer their opinions. For some reason, you want to censor that.

There are all sorts of ways that you can manage the website to your liking. Use the “ignore”button for one. It is a Seton hall and basketball site. One post out of every 50 that is about a different sports related is a problem for you?

I agree with this. It doesn't belong on this board IMO, but it's here for all to see and comment on if they wish. Same thing with the endless NY Giants threads that will no doubt start here again (already have). I don't like it but I can't control it so it is what it is.

You keep putting words in my mouth I would ask that you ignore me if you don't like what I have to say. Feel free to censor me!

You realize I am having a discussion with you. Why would I ignore you just because we disagree?

Do you know how the Ignore feature works. You don’t tell people to Ignore you…it’s their choice.
