SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall women’s basketball head coach Anthony Bozzella announced today that graduate transfer Andra Espinoza-Hunter (Ossining, N.Y.) has been granted a legislative relief waiver, and instead of becoming eligible next fall, is now able to suit up for the Pirates for this spring semester.
Espinoza-Hunter will still have the 2021-22 season of eligibility remaining as well.
“I just can’t thank our compliance officers enough,” Bozzella said. “Will Aloia and Tatum Colitz are two of the very best in the business, and I know they’ve worked tirelessly to get this waiver approved by the NCAA. Will and Tatum are a huge part of any success we enjoy moving forward.”
A significant talent, Espinoza-Hunter will immediately provide much needed depth to the Pirates, who have been dealing with injuries since the start of the season, including two that are likely season-enders.
“Andra is a great talent, whose significant experience on the highest level will help our very young squad,” Bozzella said. With the injuries we’ve endured, her addition will provide the depth we need to remain competitive during a grueling schedule of 19 games in 53 days. Her addition comes at the perfect time, and we look forward to getting her on the court and up to speed.”
A dynamic guard with significant experience on the highest levels of NCAA Division I basketball, Espinoza-Hunter joins The Hall after spending the last two seasons at Mississippi State. While in Starkville, she helped lead the Bulldogs to a 60-9 record overall, with a No. 1 seed and trip to the Elite-8 of the NCAA Tournament in 2019. A durable talent, Espinoza-Hunter played in all but two games at Mississippi State, raining down a total of 90 three-pointers during her time there. In the 2019 SEC Championship Game, she set a tournament record with eight made three-pointers in a rout of Arkansas.
Espinoza-Hunter began her collegiate career as a freshman with the University of Connecticut. She saw action in seven games that season as the Huskies finished 36-1 and made it to the Final Four of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
In high school, Espinoza-Hunter was a finalist for Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2017. She scored over 2,000 points in her prep career, averaging 36.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.0 steals per game. Following graduation, Espinoza-Hunter was the 18th-ranked college prospect in the country.
