Trump goes at GOP Chris Smith

Only person who has kept his congressional district Red for Decades in NJ

Trump is a narcissist and that is being polite. He couldn't pass his own infrastructure bill when he was in office in his 1st 2 yrs. with a R congress and senate majority .

That's because politicians love the status quo. They love a stalemate. Nothing gets done. Oh constituents how we tried for you but the other side wouldn't budge. See whats going on now. Biden can't pass his own agenda with a D congress and senate.

I agree in general but in both parties extremists have their own agenda and hold things up. That is why on this bill it was a big achievement to get this done . Without the far left and trump loyalists on board .

They passed a bill that is about 30% of what they aimed for with control of the house and senate. If that's a win considering D's controlled both, that's a sad W for the D promises and talking points for the last 12 months.

The infrastructure bill is great for the country. With this bill alone, Biden accomplished more than Trump ever did and this is from a half senile old man. Trump could not get it done. This is not only a big win for Biden, it’s a big win for the country

The second half of the bill is going to get passed as well. How much is still in debate.

It's never a big win for the country when you add $400 billion to the debt.

Much needed infrastructure but spending should have been cut elsewhere to cover it, you can't have everything.

I guess you missed the rocking economy for 3 straight years under Trump. If this bill is such a big W it should lead to a greater economy the next 3 years, people with less daily worries, which should result in big momentum for the D's going into midterms. I doubt all of it.

More Whataboutism. Can we judge Biden's presidency on what HE actually does? Anybody can spend money without consideration on how to pay for it.

What metrics are you looking at there? Should revisit them and compare right before the midterms.

Under trump and his tax cuts the deficit grew to almost 7.8 trillion dollars. Our infrastructure is light yrs.behind many other countries.

The deficit grows regardless of who is president because Congress refuses to cut spending. Raise taxes the deficit grows. Tax cuts the deficit grows. God forbid the Kennedy Center doesn't get another $100 million.

Trump did both spent and raised taxes. CLINTON was the last president to cut the budget from a Regan deficit to 0

Since Trump measures the economy by the stock market., let’s look at the Dow. Well, Under Biden, the Dow is up from 29,000 to 36000. Election Day to now. Under Trump, in four years, it went from 19,000 to 29,000. I would say Biden is far outperforming Trump.

No doubt infrastructure will also expand the jobs and companies making money. Infrastructure is the best type of spending. It’s good for the country to improve and it also provides great paying jobs.

If it's real infrastructure, I agree with you. I think most folks want tax dollars spent on actually fixing, finishing or improving roads, bridges, tunnels, transit stations and the like. If the $ is going to BS handouts, projects that make no sense, etc, it's a different situation.

You are using the phrase incorrectly.

Actually whataboutism is when some one does an act that is illegal, bad or shady and you say well, what about this other person did this as some sort of justification of what crappy thing you are being accused of. It is not used for accomplishments or positives. That is just called a comparison of two people in which one accomplished it and the other didn't.

Also, I responded to a poster who talked about the great Trump economy as opposed to what Biden is doing.

Credit? Yes, he get's credit, but let's not make it seem he took down the Berlin Wall.

Indeed, but it's still significant that he got it passed with bipartisan support.

People here deservingly hit him with things that didn't go well, I think it's reasonable that this one geos in the win column.

Merge, you are downplaying it. The infrastructure bill is a huge win. Everyone should be thrilled about it. Some people still are confusing this with the BBb bill. This is a hard infrastructure spending. Those who want to down play the importance of this are ignorant or just will refuse to give Biden or any D credit for something.

It's a good thing the market is going up. Just think where we would be if it didn't with the inflation rate soaring.

Yeah I think that is true. I do think it is incredibly important and am definitely happy it got through.

Not really surprised some here wouldn't be throwing him a parade, but was just saying they can at least acknowledge a political win. The predecessor promised an infrastructure deal for years and couldn't get it done. I think I sense a little bitterness here that infrastructure week was delayed a few years. lol

By your statement about bipartisanship don’t both sides get “credit”? I do however give d’s credit for rolling back some of the complete horse crap that some Dems wanted/want

Undeniable political W for Biden. Again, let’s hope this is real infrastructure spending and improvement here for areas of realistic and pragmatic need. I never trust or know how this type of money gets allocated and spent until it actually does.

Infrastructure bill is a positive and needed however the biggest issue for the Dems is when anyone will actually see anything out of it. From everything I’ve read about it you won’t see any signature projects or aspects coming out of the bill that will be able to be pointed at from a politicial race perspective.

The two sides that deserve credit are the Dems and the very few people who are left that are traditional Republicans.

The rest of what used to be the Republican Party is now the occult of Trump. They are nothing but obstructionists and separatists.

And the extreme wings of each party have an outsized influence so people fall in line in order to get re-elected and/or not become a target in primaries. Because 95% of these folks care more about staying in power and being re-elected than anything else. They basically all somehow get wealthier throughout their time in office or at worst set themselves up for a lucrative cash grab whenever they decide to leave. But they want to make that decision on their terms.

Granted Biden isn’t all there these days, but does anyone believe he actually agrees with any of the far left woke stuff? This is the guy know as a conservative Democrat who spent his entire Senate life working with his buddies across the aisle. He basically authored the freaking bankruptcy and crime bills the AOC’s of the world lambast. Does anyone think Lindsey Graham really agreed or even liked Trump? Another guy who had all sorts of relationships with folks like Biden across the aisle. No, he read the tea leaves and saw appeasing Trump was an avenue to get the kind of jurists he wants on the court. Same with Don Mcgann and the Federalisr Society.

This is a win for Biden's infrastructure vision and his deficit spending agenda. These days both sides don't want any wins for the other side nor does either side care about the debt.

Upgrading the infrastructure is needed. I just wish it was not by further deficit spending.

I just view it a little differently. Either the spending is worth doing or it’s not.

Imagine we had a surplus. Is spending this amount on infrastructure a good thing to do?

The fact that we have a deficit is really not related to the project itself and what it will accomplish.

That makes no sense at all and is why the U.S. is nearly $30 trillion in debt.

I just find it amazing that we ask American's on daily basis to only spend what you can afford to spend yet the government spends what's good for them whether they can afford it is irrelevant. This might have something to do with the crypto craze and at attempt to make paper money irrelevant

Of course it makes sense. If you’re a business currently operating at a loss and there is something worth spending money on, would you take a loan to spend or not?

No business would say, we have a great opportunity but we cant do it until we cut spending. They would borrow to spend more.

I’ll give you we don’t focus on spending enough... but that has nothing to do with the question about if this project is worth the spending.

It’s almost like managing an economy is entirely different than managing personal finances.

However, you must admit that infrastructure spending also produces jobs and creates more money for corporations which will in turn lead to increased tax revenues.

In terms of spending, I agree that there needs to be a reduction in spending. There is something like 1.5 trillion in discretionary spending by the government. Most of that is defense and defense related agencies. So, we should see some reduction in spending in the military. Not being in Afghanistan should be savings. The government needs to find other ways to decrease spending. The government can decrease spending in conjunction with some increases in taxes by closing loopholes and preventing the Uber wealthy from exploiting the tax laws.
