The Senate voted to end two powers that had been abused by the executive branch. 1) the AUMF for the Iraq War, which had been in effect for 20 years. 2) the COVID "emergency," declared three years ago. Both votes were bipartisan.
Yet in true Washington fashion, certain Republicans opposed #1 and certain Democrats opposed #2. Warhawk Republicans and those in the pocket of the military industrial complex like Graham, Cotton, Cruz, Scott and Rubio voted against the resolution. On #2, big government control freak Democrats opposed the resolution. Each of the 23 nay votes came from Senators representing the most liberal states: NY, NJ, MA, CT, RI, VT, MD, DE, IL, MN, MI, CA, OR, WA and HI.
Laughable. IMO, no good reason to vote against either resolution.
