UCONN in big trouble

Hurley temper tantrum cost them the game. Don’t blame him for being pissed at the call, but he is out of control with his anger. Get a grip and control yourself.
Hurley has to watch himself now this. Feel like he is going to be a bit marked now with the officials.

Excellent game to watch. Loss is no big deal. Wouldn't go undefeated anyway: see them losing four of five in Big East. Game showed need to steady their point guard spot.

Agree about PG. They can be pressured there. Several notches below what they’ve had the past few seasons. But good game for UCONN to figure out where they are after playing absolutely no one before Memphis.

The calls were crazy, like this one where Solo Ball fouled a kids elbow with his chin.

That said, working the refs has to be done with the purpose. With practically no time left, it makes zero sense to do it.

Yeah Hurley is fiery, but you have to judge people in their totality. Dan has some flaws, but overall, I'm glad to have him on our bench.

Strongly agree that point guard is our weakness right now. We need Mahaney to adjust to big boy basketball. Otherwise the kid is going to get eaten alive with the physicality of big east basketball.

The serenity of the Hawaiian islands finally met its match with Dan Hurley's temper. He's the one man the island can't calm -- the exception to prove the rule. He had his mean mug working from the first whistle.

Really, I don't care but I have to imagine any official that is subjected to his verbal barrage for two hours a night has to fight to keep his composure. Maybe the Big East refs, like Pat Driscoll, have learned to ignore him.

Nobody doubts that he's a tremendous coach but he's given a lot of slack in the way he works officials because he's constantly going at them and doing so in a demonstrative way.

Both Sha and Willard have suffered horrendous calls at the end of their games but both demonstrated a lot of class by not badmouthing the refs. It would serve Danny right if the refs took retribution into their own hands from this point forward.

reminds is of the time bryce aiken fouled a guy with his soon to be concussed chin

Agree that Danny's bursts of insanity have to be controlled.... somehow. On the other hand, how could three good refs have totally blown the McNeely call? Also, in the exchange of T's earlier in OT, if the Memphis player had not taken the overly-dramatic flocp, would any call have been made? Refs would have just gotten between them.

You have to give the offensive player space. You can't stick you face that close to him.
You're not wrong, but how often do you see those cylinder calls being made? Usually an elbow to the face is a foul with consideration of whether it's a flagrant one. Earlier in the same game, they went the other way with a call against a Connecticut player. Like most of us, I don't care how refs call a game so long as it's called consistently.

Man, Danny has been a lot to handle even for Danny... Whew. Gonzo-esque lately.
When you're looking at a 20 free throw disparity as a coach, it's understandable that you will get frustrated. He's going to need to tone it down a little bit in the near term though.
