UCONN Win

Seton Hall fans should root for UConn to win every other game on the schedule, except for March 3 in Storrs. It will make SH's win look that much better.
I absolutely hate rooting for UCONN, but i agree with you. In addition, if we are UCONNs only loss, it should help with tiebreakers for big east seeding.

Talking about the game on right now, in the most unbiased way. I believe Joel Soriano is extremely overrated. Talk about a game to take over, and he’s just looked terrible. Missed layups, can’t catch the ball, bad defense. Makes me appreciate Bediako a whole lot more.

And we took it to them. Down 10, win by 15, we only shot 3/8 from 3, forced 17 turnovers and beat them by 10 in the paint, 18-0 fast break.

I still think we deserve some better love for being UCONN's ONLY BE loss and only 2nd of the whole season...... 19-2 (1 from The Hall) show us love
We kicked their ass. Did we win by 15? Klingan in foul trouble today, karaban sitting, they win by 13.

After clingan went down no one beats them.

Castle is showing why the nba loves him. He newton and spencer killed today.

Soriano and Kalkbrenner are the two most overrated players in the Big East. Kalkbrenner is really good defensively but slow and awkward offensively.

So, I believe UConn winning is ultimately good for Seton Hall. Butler crawling back into the picture doesn't help. So, the last thing we needed was a SJU win over the number one team in the country. We have some separation at the moment and have already earned splits at minimum with SJU and Butler. Also, this may take some of the juice out of SJU and the atmosphere at UBS for our road game.

St John's is an over-hyped pretender.

(Looking at their play against a Karaban-less Uconn.)
Maybe overhyped now but it is going to change in NY minute.

Pitino is going to get the players he needs to be at UCONN’s level in a year or 2You can book it.

Billionaire Mike Repole who is now teaming with Tom Brady in a new billion $ venture is going to be pumping the NIL $$$ this spring.

That’s No Bull😁

St John’ just seems to be missing something. At times they look great but seem to make critical mistakes and TOs. Toughness? Maybe it’s just because it’s Pitino’s first year and trying to blend a bunch of brand new transfers. Second year guys Matta and Shaheen are doing well. ( Neptune not so much.)

This is a very good result for Seton Hall. We're competing against St. John's not only for Big East positioning but also a NCAA bid. St. John's still has four games with Georgetown and DePaul too, so you can count on at least three, probably four, wins for them. They're 5-6 but have already played 5 of the 8 tough road games on their league schedule.

True but they still have @Marquette, @Providence, @Butler, Seton Hall and Creighton. They already have 6 conference losses.

Indeed. I certainly wouldn't trade places, but they will rack up some more wins against the softer part of their schedule. Like it or not, they'll be favored at home against Seton Hall. They're looking at that as a game they should win.

The UConn win is a huge bargaining chip for Seton Hall. Huskies have played 22 games and only lost @ Kansas and @ Seton Hall. If it comes down to it on Selection Sunday, I feel real good having that win in the back pocket.

St. John’s outclassed by No. 1 UConn in second half as struggles continue

By Zach Braziller

On a day St. John’s best was needed, it didn’t come close.

Not on the defensive end. Not at the free-throw line.

Certainly not in winning time.

With the game up for grabs in the second half, top-ranked Connecticut outclassed St. John’s.

It didn’t have standout forward Alex Karaban (ankle), and center Donovan Clingan was a non-factor due to foul trouble, but it didn’t matter.

The Huskies overpowered the Johnnies after halftime and cruised to a 77-64 victory at a sold-out Garden.

St. John’s has now lost five of its last six games and is without a marquee victory, with chances for one dwindling.

Connecticut played like the more desperate team despite its lofty ranking.

It out-rebounded St. John’s by 15 and held the Johnnies without a made 3-pointer after halftime.

The dynamic trio of Cam Spencer, Tristen Newton and Stephon Castle combined for 59 points.

St. John’s, meanwhile, only got six points and four rebounds from center Joel Soriano.

Daniss Jenkins had 19 points, but only six after halftime.

The Red Storm’s 3-point (28.6 percent) and free-throw shooting (66.7) remained poor.

It was an evenly played first half.

Connecticut started fast, racing out to a 14-5 lead.

St. John’s responded with an extended 22-8 burst.

It was a one-point game at the break, the showdown there for the taking.

Jenkins was the best player on the floor in the first 20 minutes, hitting three 3-pointers and scoring 13 points.

The Johnnies, though, were minus-five on the glass and outscored in the paint by six.

Alleyne gave them a late boost with a pair of long jumpers, sending them into intermission with a narrow lead.

Connecticut began to take control midway through the second half, stringing together an 8-0 run and the heavy contingent of Huskies fans began to be heard.

Chris Ledlum picked up his fourth foul, and the deficit was seven with 12:04 to go.

St. John’s coach Rick Pitino went back to Soriano and he answered with a badly-needed three-point play.

It didn’t create nearly enough momentum.

UConn quickly had the lead into double figures and didn’t look back.

Do you also have the winning Powerball numbers for tonight?

This year you guys have the best .500 team money can buy 🤣.

Who knows? Maybe next year, if enough money is spent, you'll win one NCAA game in the play in round.

Pitino is 71. Better hope it's in a year or two.

I do believe that St. Johns is positioned well for a BET run this year. Other than Uconn, they have the deepest bench by far.

You are abslutely right!! I hope we expose him even more when we play them!!

I like him, but really think he disappeared against us. Know he was in foul trouble, but still.

CL: Clingan only played sixteen minutes. He looks good on court, but Hurley seems to treat him cautiously. How long might Karabin be out?

Announcers have been saying better than last years team. I think last years team was better

Clingan was in early foul trouble just like in our game and the recent PC game

Foul trouble. Fouls 3&4 were garbage calls but he's pretty dumb on a lot of his fouls.

I watched the scoreboard that night. By my bodyclock the last 15 minutes took a week and a half. Lol.
Really? Because it felt like an eternity. :(

We have two losses this year. One a 4 point loss to Kansas at Kansas and the second was the beat down you gave us in Newark. There's a lot of games to play before then,, but I'm looking forward to getting another shot of you guys, particularly at home. I hope Kadary is 100% by then. He's a UConn killer, but definitely want to see what the game looks like with both teams at 100%.

True, but Seton Hall was leading before he went out. I have no illusions about that game. You guys outplayed us. I'm not happy about it, but there's no point in pretending otherwise.

Karaban may play Tuesday against Butler. That's the target. After Butler we have Depaul and Georgetown, so if he's not ready, I could see them shutting him down for those two games to make sure he's 100% for the rest of the season.

I've seen video of him taking jump shots, so it seems like it's just an ankle roll and his only issue will be lateral movement. If I were to guess, I think he'll play it Butler, but I have no inside info.

You know it's hard to say. Last year's team had Hawkins and Jackson. Either one of those guys could take over a game for stretches. We really didn't replace that. And obviously Adama just being a physical beast down low is irreplaceable.

But, top the bottom, I can see the argument for how this team is better. we just have a lot of ways to beat you and this team doesn't need to play any particular style of basketball to win. Up until a week or so ago we didn't have the same player as a leading score for two weeks in a row. That versatility is really difficult to deal with, especially in the postseason.

Castle is turning the corner now, as well. Pretty much right on schedule. He isn't playing like a freshman anymore.

So, are we better than last year? I have no idea, but I hope people are still debating it after the end of the season because that means the team will have a pretty special.

I think this UConn team is better. Remember, last year's team lost eight games against Big East competition. Then they got hot in the tournament amid a draw that broke their way.

Spencer has replaced what Hawkins gave them. Castle is better than Alleyne. Clingan can do everything Sanogo did. Newton 2024 is even better than Newton 2023. Karaban is better. Diarra has improved. Jackson is the only one they really didn't replace, but he was an athletic freak who couldn't shoot. The sum of this year's parts is greater IMO.

I still like last year’s Sanogo- Clingan duo better than Clingan- Johnson. Johnson can’t post up so they can’t run offense thru him. Just my opinion.

Johnson is definitely weaker but not really an important factor on their team, IMO.
