USA Basketball has announced the 12-man team that will be heading to Greece for the U-19 tournament, and it’s will likely end up being one of the younger teams in attendance. Nine of the 12 players have yet to play a second of college basketball while there are four members of the Class of 2016 on the roster:

Isaiah Briscoe, Fr., Kentucky

Jalen Brunson, Fr., Villanova

Jawun Evans, Fr., Oklahoma State

Terrance Ferguson, Class of 2016

Harry Giles, Class of 2016

Josh Jackson, Class of 2016

Chinanu Onauku, So., Louisville

L.J. Peak, So., Georgetown

Caleb Swanigan, Fr., Purdue

Allonzo Trier, Fr., Arizona

Thomas Welsh, So., UCLA

The final four cuts — all of whom are rising sophomores — were made on Wednesday afternoon: Justin Bibbs (Virginia Tech), Brekkot Chapman (Utah), Vince Edwards (Purdue), Riley LaChance (Vanderbilt).

I wonder if its a recruiting advantage or not for the college coaches coaching these 'under' teams. They certainly have access to players who may not have committed anywhere, and they get a first hand view of players from other countries. On the other hand, it puts them in training camp, and in the case of the under 19 group, out of the country for the games, and unable to personally focus on recruiting targets for their own programs.
