Staten Island, N.Y. — The Seton Hall baseball team scored four runs in the top of the sixth to take its first lead of the game but couldn't hold on as Wagner came back to defeat the Pirates, 6-5, Tuesday afternoon.

AJ Soldra, Aiden Robbins and Tommy Manzo had multi-hit games for the Pirates while Magnus Krieger came with a big hit, driving in two runs on a base hit in the sixth. Seton Hall did not commit an error in the game compared to four errors made by Wagner. Despite those miscues, the Pirates could not capitalize.

How It Happened

Wagner pushed across a run in the first and threatened again in the second before Jayson Torres came on in relief and recorded the final two outs with the bases loaded. The Pirates put runners on in the first three innings but were unable to score. Conversely, Wagner was able to execute as it manufactured another run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Patrick Benn was the second Seton Hall reliever of the game and he blanked the Seahawks in the fourth to keep it a two-run game. The Pirates chipped away at the lead in the fifth where Manzo reached on a one-out double, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a passed ball. Wagner answered with a run of its own in the home half that made it a 3-1 ballgame.

In the top of the sixth, Marco Ali and Robbins led off the frame with back-to-back base hits. Jimmy Brennan was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Kevin Milewski drew a bases loaded walk that made it a one-run game again, 3-2. Krieger was the next batter and delivered a two-run single that plated Robbins and Brennan, putting the Pirates in front, 4-3. A sacrifice fly from Ryan Frontera pushed The Hall's lead to 5-3.

Jordan Marot delivered a shutdown inning on the mound in the bottom of the sixth but Wagner wouldn't be kept quiet for long. The Seahawks were able to score a run in the bottom of the seventh and two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead for good.
