Clearly Kentucky was the best team in the country. But they lost in the FF. When you have a roster with the Wildcat's talent and they come into the FF undefeated do you consider their season a failure after losing to Wisconsin?

No. Dissapointed yes; failure, no way! FF and losing to another 1 seed? One of the risks of having a freshmen heavy team.

Absolutely not. If they played 10 times, most likely split. If they played again, would probably win.

Absolutely not as well. They had a great season that came up just short of immortal. Don't like Calipari and was rooting for Wisconsin, but have to really respect what they accomplished.

+1. Exactly my feelings. They had a ridiculous run against terrific competition. What some don't talk about is having all that talent and figuring out who to play when. That teams second team could destroy us night in and night out and somehow Calipari gets them all to play terrific basketball. But the Wisconsin team this year is really special whether they win the final or not so no shame in losing to a really, really good team in the Final Four.

Depends on who you are talking about ?

Absolutely it was a failure season for Kentucky Basketball, who put all their eggs in one basket (Easter Reference), but I do not think it was failure for the top (4) Kentucky players who got their names known by coming close to the undefeated season. As long as people are talking about you in a good way, it's a good thing.

The biggest failure was for Coach Cal. He needed this to go all the way to demonstrate to the potential incomings that Kentucky basketball can make you famous and give you things that other program cannot. Wisconsin proved that was not the case.

I find it hard to define any season as a failure because a team in a one and done sport loses that one game and finishes the season with one of the best records in the history of the game.

Disappointing? No question. A failure? By no stretch of the imagination.

I think SPK is spot on. Whether its the Superbowl or a multi-game playoff series in baseball, the NHL or NBA, we've all seen instances where the best team didn't win, but the one who was hot did.

obviously the goal was to win the championship. And they didn't get it done.

But overall, I'd say it was a success. Coach Cal was able to take a team of McDonald's All-Americans and get them to buy into a team first concept. That's not easy. I think he proved to every Mcd AA that it doesn't matter how many great kids are already here if your good your going to help the team win, improve your draft stock, become a household name, and have a chance of doing something really special.

Well the Kentucky fans here at t the Final Four might disagree... But they are privacyl probably a little too close to it emotionally right now.
By the way, Wisconsin fans are out in force. Much more red then blue in town right now.
We'll see if that holds true at the game

Not a failure. In fact it was a tremendously successful season that should only have a positive impact on Kentucky recruiting. They were good for the game of college basketball as well. In a year when people were complaining about the quality of play, the Wildcats gave fans a compelling story to follow. Even fringe fans were into it, which partially explains the terrific TV numbers the NCAA tournament has garnered. They helped make this an exciting season.

As for Calipari, he's great for the game and a true innovator. Who else but him would have thought of starting the Kentucky season with a televised, draft combine. The guy is a coaching genius who makes no bones about wanting to help his players get to the next level as quickly as possible. More coaches should follow his lead.

Yes. Undoubtedly.

As a university of higher learning any season in which John Calipari is in your employ is a failure. To reward cheating in your staff, but criminalize it for your students is the height of hypocrisy.

BTW Any clean coach in the International Basketball Hall of Fame should immediately resign and request that their induction be vacated, just like Caliparis first two final four appearances have already been, and like the rest of them will eventually be,

What is Calipari doing that's so wrong? Helping kids achieve their goals? He helps not only kids, but also the school that employs him. I understand you being jealous of his success, but he's actually good for the college game. As for cheating, he's no worse than any other high-major coach. If he's cheating, then they're all doing it. That's just the way the system works.

Phenomenal season for Kentucky, but in view of their talent advantage over everyone else, it was a disappointment. I was rooting against them. It was a victory for old time college basketball that Wisconsin beat them.

Total failure. They were built and paid to win it all. Couldn't do it with a team that probably has 10 or more pro players on it now. (Anyone believe they're not getting something from WW Wes now pending their departure to the NBA). Only question is how soon will it be before the NCAA vacates their appearance in the Final 4 - a Calamari tradition. Actually thought AZ would be the team to take them out but Wisconsin altered that. Too bad they lost tonite.
