WALNUT CREEK, Ca - Talented class of 2017 point guard Isaiah Washington had a standout spring to earn an invite to the Steph Curry Select Camp, and also recently made a big visit to Minnesota.

Point guard Isaiah Washington has had a tremendous spring and summer. On the Under Armour Association Washington shined, and then he stepped his game up even more at the NBPA Top 100 Camp. Now at the Steph Curry Select Camp Washington is showing himself to be one of the top players at his position in the country.

“It has been a great experience,” said Washington of the camp. “I am learning a lot about how to play in pick and roll, and also just learning reads and how to make my IQ better so that I can be a better point guard.”

Analysis
2017 guard Isaiah Washington is a tough, quick and aggressive lead man that can both score it and facilitate. Washington, who stands 6-foot-1, is average athletically, but he has a quick first step, is a strong ball handler and finds ways to get by defenders and get into the paint. Once there he looks to kick to teammates, pull-up for mid-range jumpers or drop in floaters. Although Washington is able to make shots from distance, an area for improvement is gaining consistency with his three-point shot.

Along with going to camps, Washington has also been closely monitoring his recruitment.

“Minnesota, Seton Hall, Butler, Texas A&M, DePaul, Georgia Tech, and a few others have been calling me the most,” said Washington.

Arguably the school that has been recruiting Washington the longest is Minnesota. Washington has a longstanding relationship with assistant coach Kimani Young, and recently the four-star point guard made a visit to Minneapolis.

“The trip was great,” said Washington. “It was better than expected. Minnesota is a really nice place, and it was a great trip overall.”

He continued about the visit, “All of the coaches are the same, they are real cool. Like Kimani they all showed me a lot of attention and I built a good relationship with all of them. I liked all of them.”

Another school that has been after Washington for a while is Seton Hall, and the Pirates are continuing to make him a priority recruit.

“It is a great program,” said Washington of the Pirates. “I like them a lot, and they are continuing to recruit me hard, and they say that I would fit in well there.”

Also recently Butler started picking up the recruitment of Washington, and now the Bulldogs find themselves in the mix for the four-star floor general.

“They are recruiting me hard,” he said of Butler. “I am waiting to hopefully get an offer from them, and to get to know their coaches better.”

For now Washington insists that he is open in his college process and is going to play out July before making a college decision.
