Pirates hope to make first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1995.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Poised to make its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 20 years, the No. 24/22 Seton Hall University women's basketball team will host an NCAA Selection Show celebration on Monday night in Walsh Gymnasium. The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 6 p.m., and the selection show slated to begin at 7 p.m.
All fans, students, alumni and friends are encouraged to attend and celebrate what is expected to be the Pirates' first NCAA Tournament berth in two decades.
Seton Hall enters the postseason with a 28-5 overall record, and as BIG EAST Regular Season champions and runner-up in the BIG EAST Tournament. The conference regular season crown was the first in program history, and as the top seed in the conference tournament the Pirates advanced to the BIG EAST Championship game for the first time since 1995.
While The Hall fell just short of earning the BIG EAST's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, Seton Hall boasts an impressive resume for an at-large berth to the postseason. The Pirates were No. 39 in the latest NCAA RPI rankings, and racked up 10 wins against teams ranked in the RPI Top-100, with a 2-1 record against the Top-50.
SHU has already set a program single-season record for wins (28), passing the 1993-94 squad that won 27 games and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Pirates returned to the NCAA Tournament the following year, advancing to the second round, but have not qualified for the Big Dance since. The Hall has not lost consecutive games all season and posted a 17-1 mark inside of Walsh Gym.
Under second-year head coach Anthony Bozzella the Pirates have made quite a turnaround, winning more games during the 2014-15 season than they had combined in the three years prior to Bozzella's arrival.
With a fast-paced offensive system, Seton Hall is averaging a school record 75.8 points per game, which ranks 18th in the nation. The Pirates saw three players earn All-BIG EAST honors for the first time, with graduates Ka-Deidre Simmons (Newark, N.J.) and Daisha Simmons (Jersey City, N.J.) landing on the First-Team, and junior Tabatha Richardson-Smith receiving Second-Team honors.
Bozzella was rewarded as the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, and is one of 10 semifinalists for the Naismith National Women's College Coach of the Year award.
