First good win of the year. With UConn coming into town this Wednesday, we're gonna need to be firing on all cylinders to have a shot at staying in the game and pulling the upset. I was honestly expecting a bad loss tonight but thrilled to see shots go down and the team playing with energy finally. Excited for the game this week (even if the Pirates probably do get blown out).

As goes Dawes so goes the season.

He'll pull some out for you and he'll have you pulling your own hair out in other games.
We have said that about kadary too. He was pedestrian for him today. But dre was real good. Dylan great too. 6 boards and 6 assists for him. And though he started and finished poorly dre was real good too. We have to shoot well. Today we shot better than well. 5 guys in doubles and four guys with 6 boards or more.

The time kr sat late were not fun...coleman defense picked on today.

I thought Dylan had an outstanding performance and honestly probably was the best all-around player tonight.
6 assists and 6 boards too. And he barrelled to the hoop.

Nice drives by dre too and the two by kr late were huge

Nice win, but kind of a "fools gold" game. Ran into Missouri at a good time - between rivalry games with Kansas and Illinois - at the end of the semester, and not at their campus arena. Hot shooting that we might only see one other time this year (if at all). Missouri was clearly caught off guard by that and didn't adjust well. They look like a similar team to Seton Hall - not particularly great on either end and doesn't play smart.

Always good to get a win, but this doesn't really change anything regarding this season's trajectory. Another opponent that shot very well from 3 (12-24) and very shaky handling the game pressure in the final minutes. Gave up 87 points. The difference tonight: Seton Hall was much better than Missouri in the paint on both ends of the floor.

You need games like this however you get them.

A win is a win, very similar timing-wise to the one at Maryland several years back.

We won a must win game against a good team and looked like we knew how to play. And we played far from perfect. And we won. Beautiful.

Brown looked completely overwhelmed in the one minute he was on the floor and by far the smallest player on the court.

He was a great find that late in the recruiting cycle to be a back of the roster player but he is not ready for significant minutes against high major teams

Your not serious, are you!
As a heart attack. Do you really think we’re going to make the tournament. What does mining a few mature games do for us in the longrun if we don’t develop these kids. Dawes is fine after this season. If he were a sophomore I’d say let him work it out but he’s a fifth year senior. Cut bait.

Can’t throw in the towel in December. If we’re buried in February and there’s no hope other than pulling off a Big East Tournament miracle ala Georgetown, then I’ll agree with you. As of today, you play to win. Whether Coleman and Sanders are deserving of more minutes is in the eye of the beholder. Coleman must learn to defend better if he wants to see more time on the floor. They picked on him tonight and it was obvious. Sanders really has no business on the floor right now. He disappears against major competition. Not sure right now what he does well and how he is going to earn more minutes going forward.

Yeah Sanders was invisible out there. Brown was blitzed in the first minute. Coleman was able to hang out there tonight, but may have played his worst defense of the year out there.

Beyond ridiculous.

Sanders being invisible would have been better. He was not good. Bonehead turnover after breaking pressure late in game. Both a mental and physical error.

Agree with everything except that Missouri is a good team. It is not.
Yup.

And look we will no doubt have games where we beat an actual good team, or close to a good team, if a few of our guards and wins really shoot the ball well. The thing is every team in the Big East can do that. Even Depaul. The question that is still very much TBD is how often we can expect that type of efficient production and hot shooting, and whatever the heck is going to happen with the defense. Because Mizzou shot 45% from the field, 50% from 3 (on 24 attempts) and went to the line 22 times. They haven’t put up 87 against anyone except their first game against some small school I’ve never heard of before.

Is still rather see Coleman and Sanders get his minutes.
Yesterday Coleman really struggled on defense and Sanders (-14) played poorly in his short time on the court.

Young players need consistency and more often than not that only comes with experience.

Allowing 87 points is pretty scary. I thought defense was going to be our bread and butter. Stole that one but it didn’t Show Me much of a recipe for the rest of the season. OK … really glad for a win!

I understand the negativism. We haven't played well to date. But a decent win on the road against a Missouri team that was 29-1 at home when scoring 70 points should be a cause for hope.

Too many readers here are looking for anything to criticize. Can't we just enjoy an unexpected win and instead of dissecting everything that went wrong focus as much on what went right.

Enjoy the moment knowing that there is much more work to be done moving forward.

There was no hope before this game. Now at least there is a smidgen and this morning we should wake up feeling better than we did yesterday at this time.

More importantly we need to show some respect for our seniors. If we don’t believe in them how do we expect them to believe in themselves. Message in the Post game was loud and clear, they are fighting to through some rough play, we have to believe they can compete. If you were to read this board after a loss, your confidence would be shot. Getting out of town might have been just what they needed. if you believe in the law of averages we have lots of making up to do.

Glad to see Dawes have a good game. Even when he was struggling and the target of so much criticism, he didn't seem to hang his head. I've become a fan.

It was a good win for the team. Lots of new players and roles you just have some positive reinforcement. Last night was that. Glad to see DAW and Dawes hit shots.

So Coleman and Sanders and even Brown get bashed on this forum for their play against Missou? Reality check for you bashers. Missou scored most of those points against the starters and even almost won the game at the end against that great defensive starting 5.

So stop with the Coleman, Saunders and even Brown bashing.

Yes a great offensive showing but a horrendous defense by the starting 5 against a team that would not be by accounts as strong a team we will face in BE.

This team has not really shown a gritty defense ability so far and I suspect these Pirates are not very good defensively.

This is NOT a Coleman and Saunders or even Brown issue.

So instead bash the starters???

Better yet bash the entire team for beating Missouri on the road while putting up nearly 100 points.

Just incredible that we can't even enjoy a win without continuing to focus on the negative. Pirate fans are well aware of the team's shortcomings. But for at least a day can't we bask in the glow of victory?

I'm convinced some on this board have some kind of agenda or are trolling.

Most aren’t and don’t. Certainly none of the long time.

Everyone who posts here is happy about the W. Every W.

Some post from a more objective lens when expressing opinions. I don’t know why that’s so bothersome.

Immediately after the game ended last night you had individual threads put up attacking anyone who has expressed any type of negative opinion on the team this year. So that’s only going to lead to more of what Dan posted about.

If you want the message board to be unobjective, Pom Pom waving, state run media all the time, that’s one’s prerogative. Personally, I like reading insightful, differing views on this stuff.

Dan - when the first non-game thread is a post basically taking shots at anyone on the board who has raised any criticism of the coach or players, what do you think the response is going to be?

That's one poster. Does said poster dictate the rest of the threads?

For me, I try and post fair and balanced opinions. Nowhere on this board or on the Trove did I go overboard on the win. I called it as I saw it. A decent win by a flawed team that had not played well to date.

That said, reading the boards this morning it seems that too many contributors are looking to focus on the negative when we almost wired to wired a comparable team on the road.

Criticism is fair. But sometimes let's enjoy a game that went well knowing that consistent efforts like last night are needed for it to continue.
