I've watched the Weather Channel for years. I was a big weather nerd when I was a kid and still am to some extent. They've become obsessed with scaring people and it seems to me that they actually hope for hurricanes and extreme events because that gets them ratings. It's sad what they've become. Used to be very informative and a great watch. These days it's all over the top dramatics like "30 million under winter storm warning!" and dumb "reality" shows.

Not only that, in their studio storm coverage, the radar colors are overly dramatic in implying the severity of storms. A typical thunderstorm might be shown as a really dramatic red color.... and red is usually a color that implies danger (except at Rutgers).
