I must be out of my mind, but, yes, I'm expecting big things Wed vs Creighton. I just watched them earlier 2day at DePaul, they looked like NCAA Champ material-doubtful they can replicate that effort 2 games in a row.
I did witness our game vs Johns of course, and I think Danny may have cleared up a few ?s I was pondering while watching that contest, not the least of which is the fact that our guys were flu ridden; Angel seemed out of his element 2day, 1st time I've felt that way in a long time[a long, long time]. I get the sense he wasn't up to par physically.
Where we really got hurt in NY was 1. 1st half, too, too many blocked shots on O, and 2. 2nd half, allowing Lovett and Ponds to wheel in for basically uncontested layups to stretch out the lead. We are too thin roster-wise right now, need Ish back[too bad Veer isn't still around, if he had been a little more patient, I think he would have been rewarded right about now!].
We had just gutted out 2 nice W's in a row, beating competent teams in OT each time, this team with the short roster just wore down today. They as a group need a day off, hope the staff gives it to them Sun, let the guys rest up, hang in the dorms, get back to business on Mon.
How far can this team go? I don't know, but I think they have demonstrated a tuffness that says they still have a shot or two left in them; I like for them to come out very focused on Wed, and give a very good account of themselves; I for one look forward to a very big W on Wed.
Now, onto another matter-I am anything but a Kevin Willard apologist, but isn't it a little bit silly to grind this guy into the ground every time we lose a game? Come on now, we are the current Big East champs, beat the eventual Nat Champs in the title game, and it took almost half a season for them to lose a game this yr. Look, I'm not comparing Kevin to Jay or McDermott or the Butler guy, bench wise, but, really now, the numbers game for us is prohibitive at this time. Look at today's game- Chris is sending in guys like Mussimi, Andrijovic, and Yakwe, all decent contributors, and we have nothing to counter that with.
In conclusion, yes, this HC must recruit better to get a superior blend of talent on this roster-that in the end will be his measuring stick here. Myles Cale and Darnell Brodie should help, now we need 2 more immediate contributors[1 PG, 1 Big], for next yrs edition.
And, of course, next yrs recruiting class has to be big time
