At the end of February last year the team was in complete turmoil - We were blown off the court at Villanova, Sterling Gibbs in the process was kicked out of the game for a terrible flagrant foul, and just about everyone, including me, was calling for Willard's head on a platter. Fast forward to tonight's game - We blow off the court a strong former top 10 Big East competitor, our new star point guard put on a performance as good as any point guard in the country has done all year, and our team just about put in the books a bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time in ten years!
Thank God Pat Lyons did not respond positively to the e-mail that I sent him after the Villanova game urging him to fire our head basketball coach! GO PIRATES!
P.S. While here, I want to give as well a public shout out to the Class of 68 and his very nice wife Kathy - It was a wonderful treat that you were able to make the long one day trip down for tonight's game on such short notice. My friend Bob and I very much enjoyed your company over a light dinner in the Fire Lounge before the game. I hope your trip back home was calm and safe. My wife Mary and I are looking forward to hopefully hooking up with you again for dinner in the Poconos come April - All the best - Bob
