What???

I actually thought it was a very reasonable statement and assessment of AI.

She does not have the best communication style, but if you put those same words in the mouth of another person and perhaps throw in a British accent you would have thought it was a completely appropriate statement.

Some 30 years ago I was involved in initial AI which back then was referred to as expert systems. The machine that she refers to is the computer and back then you fed it a ton of if statements and then the software would try to chain together if statements to arrive at some conclusion.

The difference today is that the speed of the computer has increased dramatically and the amount of memory available has increased exponentially. AI systems has the ability to form their own if statements based on information that it has available. The ability to form its own if statements without having to have to input it explicitly is what constitutes the intelligence that we didn't have years ago.

She is correct that it is still a matter of what information it has available to form these new if statements and new conclusions. Years ago there was an expression called gigo or garbage in garbage out which translates to if you put bad information you'll get bad decisions and if you put good information in, you'll get better decisions. If we skew the information one way or another it will skew the results that we get and that is the thing she is suggesting that we be cognizant of which I agree with.

Someone who understands AI certainly had a conversation with her about the potential and risks of AI. She didn’t do a great job explaining it, but I’ve certainly heard worse.

A reasonable attempt to discuss this issue is lost on Hall85 who is only interested in making fun of the Vice President. We already have a guy who makes ten posts a day like that. Hall85 called him a clown. It takes one to know one.

Then discuss the issue instead of discussing other posters.
The poster is the issue. For someone who professes to hate the MSM, Hall85 couldn’t wait to post this Fox story at 6:30AM on a Saturday. Why? So he could make fun of the VP and maybe get a like from SPK. For him that is the issue. So sad, but clowns gotta clown I guess.

To answer your question directly, machine learning is a wonderful thing and it is mindblowing to think how far we have come in only 30 years. That being said, the risks are real and the biggest risk is the one we don’t see. Hopefully, we remain one step ahead.
