What's your opinion?

The way we played our last game, paired with the fallout that spawned out of nothing (Gordon called a players meeting something was up) I would say worse than expected. I didnt expect these types of rifts (idk why)

Before that game, or even if it was a well fought loss i would say much better than expected. But i got the glimpse of the willard factor and i dont like it. Next game is huge.

Record wise as expected, but it's early January.

I thought that culture wise it would be better. The last two weeks have given me pause, so that part is worse.

As Expected.

Willard has better talent than before, so he shouldn't be sporting his way to a 4-7 win finish like previous years even if his player management is sub-par. I expected 9-9 and hoped for 10-8.

If either:

A. The team loses the next three games, removing a bunch of chances for a good win

or

B. Player morale and effort continue to sink (complete with further benchings)

It will be lower than expected.

More of the same.. Regardless of how this season turns out, after 6 years, one thing is very clear when factoring in everything, Willard is not the answer (short or long term). Some here will say "they are young." So is Providence, and they're #12 in the nation. Further, whose fault is it that "we are young"? Some of us here are pointing to next year as the "the year" we make an impact. My point is- why next year? Because they will be all Juniors? That's nonsense.

I agree that Willard is not the answer long term. The guy has been a coach for going on 9 years and hasn't been able to make the Tourney. In his time at Seton Hall we still haven't even cracked a.500 record. Willard had the horses for a bid in 11-12 and squandered it. There is no reason it couldn't be squandered again next year. Bottom line is that there will always be an excuse. Good coaches get it done.

A bit better than I expected. I did not think this team would be better than last year's team, and I think they probably are. Defense has shown promise. The offense remains unwatchable.

I'm with Bud. We are a little better than I expected.

Expected
Really good play of Carrington and Gordon.
I also expected Isaiah to be going through a big transition at the PG spot (its not an easy transition going from AAU ball to D1 PG).

Good Surprises
Ish and Nzei. Both players have really helped us enormously. Tremendously athletic and are causing troubles for opposing teams defensively. Now I hope they can also add to their offensive games so they can become a threat and open things up a little for our scorers.
Defense - I thought defensively we would be improved but we have the opportunity to be a really good team defensively (even though Creighton really hurt us).

Unexpected Surprises
Angel's struggles. I thought his trajectory would go up. But it's clear he struggled early on (conditioning and maybe did not work on his game like he should have in the off season). And now he is struggling because teams are trying to shut him down because he is a high percentage shooter. Shut down Angel and they have to defend our guards that can score but not at a high percentage right now.
Veer has also been an unexpected surprise for me. With his wacky jumping around at different High Schools I thought he would never be a contributor this year. But he has surprised me and seems to be improving a little each game.

Record wise what was expected, only the way SH got it wasn't. (Ws that thought would be Ls etc)
Ish much better than expected.
Nzei - nice surprise.
Carrington - expected him to improve and he has. Same for Desi, except didn't expect last 2 games. (Warning)
IW - shows flashes of what you'd expect from someone with his talent. Presses too much (not defensively) when he shouldn't. Learning on the job not easy. Ask what's his name.

AD - worse than expected. Regressed. Not ready to play at start of season. Whose fault was that? If you don't know I can't tell you cause I won't/can't mention his name.
Gordon - flashes of what I had hoped for. Overall got what we expected.
Veer - where expected for a frosh. Progress delayed by injury. Will be a good one.

Balance of the team where you'd expect them to be. Unfortunately, at least one big with potential has seen little time to date.

Defense - better than expected overall, excluding last 2 debacles.
Offense - exactly what was expected. The hair weave, rush to judgment shots etc. At least it's consistent. Ugh!
Coaching - consistent. Take the hot player out after making a shot. Deer in the headlights look. Losing control of team. What would you expect after 9 years? Improvement? Now that's funny and its not even February. But they're only sophs........

Pretty much as expected with Ish being the most pleasant surprise and getting little out of Anderson the biggest disappointment. The sophomores have made progress in their game but inconsistency still a problem . The continued issues between player and coach is unsettling as it shouldn't keep happening every year. We've won a couple of games I thought we'd lose and a couple I though we would win but still don't see us as a top 6 team in the Conference.

As expected. Although I've been a Willard supporter, I'm beginning to waiver a little. Once again, we are not strong when it comes to fundamental basketball and our free throw % is maddening.

The FT shooting really is maddening. In five of Willard's six years here, the team has ranked in the bottom third nationally in free throw %

2011 - 237th
2012 - 235th
2013 - 280th
2014 - 94th
2015 - 297th
2016 - 306th

As expected.

One game better in the OOC portion but didn't expect a bad loss to Long Beach State and therefore also would have had a better OOC schedule.

Right where I thought Seton Hall would be after 5 games in the BE season, just need to show that there are no lingering effects from the Creighton game. Need to win at 1 game out of the next 3 to stay on track for my 8-10 expectation.

This is exactly where I'm at. To date, better than expected. But there are still two months left and the trend lines seem to be changing...

That's a little much, blaming Willard when the kid went out of the country to play for his national team, which apparently coach objected to.

Probably a little better than expected but that Creighton game has left a bad taste in my mouth. And now with these next 3 games at Providence, home Nova, and at X.....well this could be another debacle in about 10 days.

As expected, but I was one of the few who thought this team was an 8 win team.

I would say it is about what I expected. Pre season I would have had us beating Creighton and losing to Witchita so we are pretty muuch exactly where I thought we would be.

I am optimistic we can steal one of the next 3, which is about what we need right now.

Obviously, not a high priority of the coaching staff or what's his name. Fortunately, not a critical part of the game, especially close games. What?

Too early to really say but I guess it's what expected from me so far..like I said in another post...."If we play well with good coaching and win one out of the next three games, I will be happy. If we win two I will be very happy with the team and coaches.

Disappointing. At Rooneys in the Fall KW said :

1. We should be disappointed with last season. He was too.

2. This is the best group of players he ever had. Expect a tournament team.

But we will again be disappointed, we will not make the tournament, IW, Delgado and Rodrigues will leave at the end of the season and after 6 seasons we will have nothing to show for KW"s time here.

Oh well.

But we will again be disappointed, we will not make the tournament, IW, Delgado and Rodrigues will leave at the end of the season
Something will definitely happen after the season one way or the other. Changes will happen. Obviously, coexistence probably isn't possible unless something miraculously changes now.

What do you think of @SetonHallMBB's season thus far?

Better than expected?

As expected?

Worse than expected?

Why?
Until last game, as I expected. Now I have to see a change before I care again. I hope this reaction is seen as childish and knee-jerk as the season progresses. But for now, been there....

Hmm. Good question. The current drama set aside for a moment, I'd say at 12-4 with a good win over Wichita State and a solid win over Georgia, the body of work is slightly better than expected.

As I expected.

I thought they would have one more loss in the OOC schedule but that was balanced by losing to Long Beach State.

In the Big East I expected a 2-2 start and that played out although not quite as I predicted. A blowout W at Marquette evened out a blowout L at home to Creighton.

Better than expected until Creighton. Very ugly loss at home with a lot a of bad vibes going on along with the piss poor play. Team is again at a turning point. MU won at Providence, can we ? That would turn things around. I don't expect to win every game but that loss on Saturday was pathetic. Is that a precisely vague answer? I've got a bad feeling about the rest of the season..... hope I'm wrong.

If you ask this question next Sat after the X game, it will be interesting to see the responses as 2-5 looks likely. Hope we can steal 1 this week!
