Seton Hall has officially lost the Al-Amir Dawes sweepstakes as the Patrick School (NJ) standout point guard verbally committed to Clemson on Thursday.
Dawes joins Aundre Hyatt, Josh Pierre-Louis and James Bishop in the group of guards the Pirates have whiffed on since the beginning of August.
Now the question that lies is where Seton Hall turns to at guard to get on the board in their 2019 class. You would figure that one of their two scholarship slots remaining would be addressed in the backcourt with the other being a frontcourt addition.
Let’s take a closer look at what ball handler is next in line.
Tyson Etienne
Schools of interest: Auburn, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Seton Hall, St. John’s, VCU, Wichita State
Etienne has expressed strong interest in the Pirates after several visits both in home and on campus, the most recent being an unofficial on Sept. 23. The Long Island Lutheran (NY) product thinks highly of head coach Kevin Willard along with the rest of his staff.
“I’m in direct contact with coach Willard and I really like him and enjoy talking to him,” he told Piratecrew. “Who he is as a person, his coaching style and how he treats me is what makes me appreciate him. All of the coaches over there like coach Billmeier and coach Woodard, they’re really good guys I really enjoy talking to them.”
The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder had in-home visits with Auburn and Minnesota as well as campus trips to Oklahoma and Wichita State last month. Shockers head coach Gregg Marshall was also at Etienne’s AAU open gym on Sept. 26.
The school to watch down the stretch is Oklahoma, who the youngster appears to be up in the air about for the time being.
“I’m in contact a lot with coach Kruger over the phone,” he said. “I’m still deciding on whether or not I want to continue my recruitment with them though, so we’ll see on that.”
Etienne plans on signing his LOI at some point in November.
DaShawn Davis
Schools of interest: Old Dominion, Seton Hall, St. John’s
Davis was supposed to announce his decision on Oct. 3 after narrowing his list to three schools, but made the call to push it back to a later date.
If he were to land at Seton Hall, the Our Saviour Lutheran (NY) senior has said previously that he expects to wait in the shadow of Pirate phenom Myles Powell for one season before taking over as a key contributor in his second year.
He told Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog that Old Dominion and St. John’s are schools where he could see himself on the court more often right off the bat.
Davis attended a St. John’s workout on Sept. 26 and visited Old Dominion days later. Seton Hall last hosted him on Sept. 8.
