Where is the leadership?

<<< Here’s what we do know: The absence of leadership at all levels of government has compounded these circumstances. We’ve normalized too many behaviors that make Richmond — and the United States — a less safe and prosperous place to live.

Individuals are desecrating property and being absolved of any wrongdoing. Banks and businesses are boarded up and, locally, a critical public economic engine — VCU — incurred $100,000 in damage to its Monroe Park campus in a matter of hours. >>>

Yes, peaceful protesters, LOL!

Unpeaceful protesters need to be dealth with swiftly and harshly. That is not being done. We need to arrest anyone who falls into the unpeaceful category and provide harsh jail time otherwise we reap what we sow, see Portland and Seattle.

People who in the name of protests who destroy property should be arrested. But here is the little dirty secret that has moved through this country is called bail reform. Hardly anyone but murderers and rapists spend their time in jail awaiting trial. Everyone comes out of jail. Those cases will never get to trial resulting in all sorts of downgrades and at most probationary sentences. This bail reform movement in my eyes would have eventually resulted in higher crime rates. But The unrest of today’s world has sped the process up. This is another another little complication. Protests leaders should be reporting anarchists to the police and others who do damage. There needs to be a working relationship between the protestors who protest for the right reason and law enforcement. If they know who did damage then it is their responsibility to report it.

Cern,

I've been meaing to ask you how bail reform is working out in NJ. Thoughts?

I am not a believer of bail reform. Essentially everyone is released besides people charged with murder and aggravated assault pending trial. I have been waiting for violent crime to increase. It is happening this year. However, people will blame it on CoVid. But I believe this is the result of having more violent and dangerous people on the street. The constitutional amendment that the citizens of NJ voted for was to keep violent people in jail without bail. This is not what is occurring.

So, the other effect is that criminal trials are now limited to murders and aggravated sexual assaults. Because these trials take up 4 to 6 weeks, there is less time to try robberies, burglaries and drug cases. So the other crimes get put off for who knows when and will be given downgrades and probation. It’s not a good system and must be fixed. But everyone patted themselves on the back for it.
